자연의 기억 The Memory of Nature

살아오면서 축적된 기억들은 과거에서 현재로 불쑥 나타나 지금 이곳과의 이질감을 불러일으키며 우리들을 어떤 중간지점, 사색의 시간에 머무르게 한다. 앙리 베르그송(Henri Bergson)이 제시하듯 인간의 의식은 쉬지 않고 흐르는 냇물처럼 끊임없이 지속하며 정신적 기억을 통해 현재를 지각하는 동시에 과거를 회상한다.

수면 위 풍경을 보며 사색에 잠겼던 나의 기억들은 추상적으로 형상화되고, 물결과도 같은 의식의 흐름을 따라 흐르듯 떠돌며 시간과 공간은 서로 얽히고 덧씌워진다. 그와 같은 기억 속 이미지들을 연결고리로 삼아 과거와 현재의 연속성을 공간과 자연 이미지의 조화로 표현하며 현실 속 공간에 덧입힌 내면의 추상적인 세계를 새로운 풍경화로 재구성하였다. 현재의 시공간을 벗어나 유토피아적 풍경을 배경으로, 끊임없이 흐르는 시간이자 사색의 연결고리인 수면 위에 비친 식물의 이미지로 상징되는 '연상의 조각들'은 물결과 같은 의식의 흐름을 따라 흐르듯 부유한다. 내가 작품을 통해 모색하는 사색과 위안의 소중한 순간들이 거기에 있다.

작품 속 공간들은 그 자체로 완전한 실재의 구현이 아니라 주관적 시선으로 변형된 결과물이다. 수면 위에 투영된 자연 요소들은 반추상적 풍경화 속에 압축된 추상적 이미지로 표현하였고 왜곡된 식물 이미지로 암시된 자연의 기억은 일종의 매개체로서 과거와 현재, 내면과 외부세계를 연결하는 연결고리로 작용한다. 이 같은 매개체들은 설산이 가진 순수성, 이상향 또는 이상을 향한 의식의 통로와 같은 구조의 공간에서 시작되어 추상적 표현으로 시각화 되는 과정을 거친다. ● 본인의 작품이 보는 이의 마음 속 어딘 가에 사색의 공간이 되어주기를 기대한다. ■ 유지희

Time is continuous. Occasionally, we are awakened by some of the memories from the past and get lost somewhere in the flow of time and in meditation. As Henri Bergson said, human consciousness continues like steams of water to sense the present and reminisce the past through memories simultaneously. ● The moment of my meditation gazing at the water is visualized in form of abstraction. Time and space flow through consciousness like ripple, intertwine and overlay together on the canvas. I described the continuity of time interpreted in the form of harmony of space and natural images in my memories. The space in the real world and the spiritual, abstractive world is portrayed as an overlapped natural landscape, presenting the landscape of inner representation. ● The 'Reminiscent Fragments' implicates the image of plants drifting through the flow of consciousness. I seek the moment of meditation by releasing the memory of nature on the canvas to find a Utopia I envision deep in my mind. ● Spaces represented in my paintings are not the representation of actual places in the real world, but the image reconstructed through the subjective perspective. The memory of nature is suggested by the abstractive fragments of image of botanical landscape reflected on the water and it connects the past and present as well as inner and outer world. ● I portray the landscape of meditation through snowy mountain peaks of extreme pureness and utopia I envision, and depict the imaginary architecture structured as a passage towards somewhere my memory of natural scenery develops into abstractive expressions. ● I wish my works of harmonizing memories and natural scenery can bring a moment of meditation and relaxation to the viewers. ■ Ji Hee Yoo
