나의 사진들은 말로 형용할 수 없는 부족함으로 시작된다. 그 부족함은 또 다시 나를 사진의 세계로 인도한다. ● 작품들은 역동적이고 거칠기도 하며 우아한 모습도 보여진다. 나의 삶은 남들과 크게 다르지 않지만 사진으로 나타나는 모든 것들은 내가 내 모습을 더 확실하고 더 오랫동안 기억하기 위함이다. 한국인이라는 정체성을 가지고 가장 한국적인 미를 통해 공허함을 채우기도 하고 폭풍의 눈과 같은 고요함을 느끼기도 한다.

사로잡힌다는 말이 무엇일까? 처음에는 단순히 궁금해 했고 대단해보였다. 하나씩 알아가면서 시간이 지날수록 마음에 다가왔고 그 순간들을 카메라로 담아내며 더 깊고 넓게, 나도 모르게 서서히 사로잡혔다. 그리고 대상과의 관계에서 뿜어져 나오는 기운이 느껴질 때 비로소 함께 행위하고 표출된다. 사람마다 사로잡히는 요소는 각기 다르다. 단순히 겉만 느낀다고 해도 좋다. 같은 사진을 보는 공간에 있지만 제각기 다른 경험을 지니고 있고 그 경험과 본인의 견해에 따라 확연히 다르게, 뚜렷하게 나뉜다.

학은 하나의 상징이다. 단순한 표현 그대로가 아닌 모든 사람들과 소통하며 억압된 사회에 대한 외침이기도 하고 누군가에겐 답답한 마음이나 안 좋은 기운 털어버릴 수 있는 매개체, 혹은 美에서 나오는 원초적인 아름다움을 만끽하기도 한다. 나에게 있어서는 마음속의 희비애환(喜悲哀歡)이고 삶의 일부분을 보여주기 위한 야망이다. 화려해 보이지만 실은 아주 소박하며, 표현되는 모습 그대로에서의 교감을 이뤄, 보는 모두에게 하나가 되는 조화를 이끌어 낸다. ● 찰나의 순간은 천천히 이루어진다. 그리고 시간이 지날수록 천천히 이루어진 그 찰나의 순간은 더 위대해질 것이라 믿는다. ■ 이순철

Crane ● My photographs begin with an indescribable deficiency. The lack brings me back to photography. ● The works are dynamic, rough and elegant. My life is not much different from other people, but everything that appears in the picture To remember my appearance for a longer time. I fill in emptiness with the most Korean beauty with Korean identity. They can also feel the quiet of the eye of a storm. ● What is it about being obsessed? At first I was just curious and looked great. And as I got to know them one by one, I came to my mind as time went by, and I photographed them all. In a deeper, wider, I was caught in the act. And when they feel the energy coming out of their relationship with their partner, they act together and show themselves. Different people have different elements of obsession. You can say it is just the outside. They're in the same photo room, but they have different experiences. It is distinctly different from the experience and one's own perspective. ● The crane is a symbol. It's not just a voice, it's a cry to the oppressed society, to everybody who's communicating. For some, a medium to get rid of a stuffy or bad spirit is a medium to let go of. Or they can enjoy the raw beauty that comes from beautifulness. For me, it is the desire to show part of my life. It looks gorgeous, but it's actually very simple, and it's very sympathetic in the way it's portrayed. Create a harmony that becomes one for all who see it ● Moment is slow to come.
