춤 MOVES

이진숙이 춤을 바라보며 아름다움을 추적하는 방식은 움직임 자체에 대한 몰입, 즉 춤을 추는 것과 다르지 않다. 이를 실현하기 위해 인물 위주의 접근 방식을 배제함으로써 무용수의 얼굴이나 표정을 드러내지 않고 무대의 연극적 요소들을 최소화하였다. 오로지 운동감 위주의 사진들만을 선택하고 무대 전체에 대한 조망을 강조한 사진들은 무대 위의 주인공을 허용하지 않는 대신 보는 사람으로 하여금 함께 춤을 추는 듯한 동적인 명상 체험을 유도한다. 이진숙은 자신의 사진 속에서 스스로 안무가이며 연출자이며 무용수인 것이다. 이렇게 그녀는 자신의 춤을 이어가고 있다. ■ 신수진

평생 할 줄 알았던 춤을 쉬게 된 후 어떤 방법으로든 나의 춤을 추고 싶었다. 나의 선택은 사진을 통해서 춤을 추는 것이었다. 하지만 카메라를 들고 춤과 장단, 무용수의 호흡, 동작을 아는 것 만으로 사진을 표현하기에 부족함을 느껴서 늦었지만 상명대 대학원에 진학을 해서 사진을 공부하게 되었다. 움직임을 렌즈를 통해서 잡는다는 것이 생각보다는 어려웠지만, 카메라를 들고 촬영이 시작되는 순간 렌즈를 통해 춤을 추고 있는 행복한 내가 있다. 단 한번 밖에 없는 아름다운 움직임을 나만의 방식으로 관객에게 보여주고 싶다. 렌즈를 통해서 신명 나게 나만의 춤을 추고 싶은 것이다. ■ 이진숙

The way Lee Jin Sook gazes and pursues dance is not any different from dancing herself, for she is completely immersed in it. In order to do this effectively, she does not direct her focus on the dancer or exposes the face or the expression, yet at the same time minimizes capturing the theatrical elements on the stage. She instead selects the movement-oriented photographs and excludes the images with the overview of the stage that show the dancer, thereby inducing the viewer to partake in the dynamic meditative experience of dancing along. In her photographs, Lee Jin Sook becomes the choreographer, art director, and the dancer. This is how she can keep on dancing. ■ Shin Soojin

I wanted to find a way to get back into dance of which I had believed I would be doing for life. I chose photography as my instrument to dance once more. But because of my ineptitude to express the dance, rhythm, the flow of the movement, and pace with a camera, I belatedly enrolled in the graduate division of Sangmyung University to study photography. ● It was more difficult than I had thought it would be to capture the motion by way of the camera lens, however, I found myself happily engrossed in dance while I was shooting away. I would like to share with the viewers the uniquely beautiful movement photographed in my own style. I wanted to recreate blissful moves through these images. ■ Lee Jin Sook
