전남문화관광재단과 광주시립미술관이 공동 운영하는 「G&J 광주·전남 갤러리」는 지역 작가 위주의 대관전과 각 기관별 연중 2회의 기획전을 개최합니다. 이번 전남문화관광재단이 주최하는 전시는 남도의 전통과 현대 미술의 소통을 통해 전라남도의 문화적 가치를 재조명하고 동시에 젊고 참신한 출신 작가들의 역량을 알리기 위한 『타임 슬립 Time slip』展 입니다. ● 타임 슬립은 시간이 미끄러진다는 뜻으로, 타임머신과 같은 기계적인 시간 여행이 아니라 과거와 현재, 미래의 자연스러운 시간여행을 뜻합니다.

이 용어에서 알 수 있듯이 『타임 슬립 Time slip』展은 전통을 바라보고 사유하는 대상에 따라 변화하는 전통의 다양한 의미와 시각을 재고하고, 시대별 각자의 고유한 방식과 사고로 창출된 작가의 작품을 통해 현대 미술의 실험성과 독창성을 살펴보기 위한 전시입니다. 이번 전시에는 전라남도와 광주 출신의 무형문화재 1인, 중견 작가 2인, 청년 작가 2인 총 5명이 참여하며 전통예술, 미디어, 회화 등의 작품을 선보입니다. 전라남도 나주는 영산강과 바닷물이 합류한 지리적 환경에 의해 예부터 염직 문화가 발달했습니다. 정관채 무형문화재는 전수교육관을 설립하여 화학염료 보급으로 사라져가는 전남의 문화 가치를 보존하고 전통을 전승하기 위해 활발하게 활동하고 있습니다.

중견작가인 김현덕, 이이남은 전통 기법을 가미하여 자신만의 작품을 구축한 작가입니다. 김현덕은 1996년 나주에서 염색작업을 시작한 후 현재 함평에서 작업하고 있습니다. 자연에서 채집한 천연염료로 물들인 염색 천 위에 채색하여 개성적인 작품을 제작합니다. 이이남은 명화나 산수화를 통한 고전·전통과 현대를 넘나드는 주제와 움직이는 영상, 동적인 회화라는 독창적이며 흥미로운 미디어아트 작품을 선보입니다.

청년작가 김단비와 하루.K는 젊은 시각으로 전통을 다양하게 재해석합니다. 김단비는 전통과 현대의 접점을 절묘하게 유지시키며 과거와 현재의 연결선상에 있는 신비한 현대판 산수화를 통해, 하루.K는 전통 동양회화의 형식에 서양회화를 혼합하여 동·서양 구분이 모호한 현대사회를 반영한 작품을 통해 각자의 실험 정신을 나타냅니다.

「G&J Gwangju · Jeonnam Gallery」, jointly operated by the Jeonnam Art, Culture and Tourism Foundation and Gwangju Museum of Art, holds a planned exhibition twice annually and exhibitions for local artists. This exhibition 『time slip』 arranged by the Jeonnam Art, Culture and Tourism Foundation aims to shed new light on the cultural value of Jeollanam-do and to popularize the ability of new and young artists from the region through communication between traditional and modern art. ● 'time slip' means that time slips, which means natural and free time travel among the past, the present and the future, not mechanical time travel using a time machine. As you know from this term, the 『time slip』 exhibition was planned to reconsider various meanings and views of tradition that constantly changes according to the objects, and to examine the experimental nature and the originality of modern art through artist's works of art created by unique ways and thought. 5 artists including 1 intangible asset, 2 artists of middle standing, and 2 young artists participated in this exhibition to introduce traditional art, media and paintings. ● Naju, Jeollanam-do is located in the geographic setting where Yeongsan River and the sea meet. Thanks to its geographic location, dyeing culture has developed for a long time. Jung, Kwan chae, the national intangible asset, actively established a learning center in Naju, and makes works of art in order to preserve cultural value of Jeonnam and to transmit the tradition that is gradually disappearing due to dissemination of chemical dyes. Kim, Hyun duk and Lee, Lee nam, artists of middle standing, are those who have built their own world of arts by using traditional techniques. Kim, Hyun duk started dyeing work in Naju in 1996, and since then, he makes works in Hampyeong currently. ● He makes characterful works by coloring dyed clothes with natural dyes from the nature. Lee, Lee nam introduces unique and interesting media art works such as moving images and dynamic paintings beyond the boundary of tradition and modernity through famous paintings and landscape paintings. ● Kim, Dan Bi and Haru.K, young artists reinterpret the tradition in a new and young way. They show their own experimental nature. Kim, Dan Bi keeps the contact point of the tradition and modern times excellently and creates works of art along the connection line of the past and the present. Haru.K creates works of art reflecting the modern society where the division of the East and the West is ambiguous by mixing the form of Eastern paintings with Western paintings. ● It is more important work to preserve the region's value and to cherish trace from the past as cultures are rapidly disappearing. Repetitive and constant work process in a traditional way can be understood with the heart to respect intangible assets toward the cultural values beyond the meaning of simple works. We think that such tradition will become a media to connect generations by providing new motif, not just one from the past. ● We wish you will have an opportunity to examine what kind of values tradition has in the modern art world and how artists can reproduce it, through this 『time slip』 exhibition. ■ Jeonnam Art, Culture and Tourism Foundation
