『젊은 시각 새로운 시선 1999-2017 : 인식적 지도 그리기』전은 부산시립미술관이 개관이래 지속적으로 개최해온 젊은 작가 지원 전시, 『젊은 시각 새로운 시선』전의 다양한 면모를 살피고 현재화하는 작업이다. 『젊은 시각 새로운 시선』전은 기성의 미술, 체제, 담론에 도전하는 동시대 젊은 작가들을 소개하고 새로운 지적·감성적 문제의식을 공유하기 위해 부산시립미술관 개관 초기부터 의도적으로 배치된 전시프로그램이다. 2017년 올해 전시는 2018년 개관 20주년을 앞두고, 본 전시의 누적된 자료들과 의미를 총체적으로 파악하려는 의도에서 비롯되었다. ● 본 전시는 1999년부터 2015년까지 총13회의 역사를 가지고 있는 『젊은 시각 새로운 시선』전을 나름의 방식으로 취합하고 분류하여 제시한다. 당시 출품작을 중심으로 소개되는 개별 작가와 작품들을 4개의 소주제로 묶고 각각의 주제가 서로 이어지고 관계하는 와중에 『젊은 시각 새로운 시선』전이 소개했던 작품들에 등장한 핵심요소들을 재맥락화한다. 4개의 소주제는 다음과 같다.   01 기술, 매체, 대중문화: 새로운 미디어 환경과 그 반응 02 도시, 공간, 분리: 도시의 환경 변화와 소외된 삶의 모습 03 일상, 타자, 정체성: 징후로서의 일상, 익명의 개인 04 전략, 재검토, 재사유: 시스템과 인간, 관념과 제도, 해방의 정치를 위한 전략   4개의 주제와 주제를 구성하고 있는 개별적인 요소들은 전시가 지속되어온 20여 년 동안 우리 사회의 불연속적인 시공간과 관련이 있다. 오늘날의 우리 사회가 그러한 것처럼, 미술과 단절된 것처럼 보이는 정치, 사회, 경제, 역사의 모습은 더 이상 독립된 영역으로 분리하여 사고되지 않는다. 한정된 주제로 사태를 파악하는 것은 작품에 대한 협소한 이해이거나 세계에 대한 지나치게 단순화된 인식이라는 오해를 받을지 모른다. 20여 년간, 13회의 전시를 통해 배출된 63명의 작가들과 작품이 우리 사회의 또 다른 재현으로서 삶을 재사유하는데 유효하(했)다면, 그것은 그 자체로 현실의 모순이 각인된 장소이자 미래의 징후들을 드러내는 방식으로 존재해 왔을 것이다. 한편, 작가라는 존재는 세계를 바라보고 인식하기만 하는 가상의 인물이 아니라 변화되어 가는 환경 속에서 생활하고 작업을 발표하며 시공간과 부대끼는 현실의 인물들이다. 20여 년간의 시공간은 이들이 활동하는 현장들, 예컨대 그가 속한 사회라는 현장의 구조변화와 분리되어 있지 않다. 이러한 측면에 주목하여, 4개의 주제들은 그 구획을 넘어 총체적으로 이해되기 위한 하나의 방법이자 통로로 제시된다. ● 『젊은 시각 새로운 시선』전을 통해 부산시립미술관이 젊은 작가를 지원한다는 기획 역시 작가들의 활동에 관여하는 하나의 방식이다. 본 전시는 작품 창작의 맥락과 그 외적인 환경들을 유추할 수 있는 작가들의 키워드, 작가 인터뷰, 전시이력, 『젊은 시각 새로운 시선』전에 대한 소회와 같은 이야기들을 함께 소개한다. 이로써 『젊은 시각 새로운 시선』전의 안과 밖을 둘러싼 다양한 이야기들을 모으고 기록하며 그 면모를 점진적으로 파악해나가고자 한다. 이 모든 과정은 세계를 나누고 취합하는 과정의 반복을 통해 그 종착지에 어렴풋이 다가가게 될 것이다. 에둘러 말하자면 이 전시는 애초의 욕망을 완성시킬 수 없다. 그렇기에 이를 『젊은 시각 새로운 시선』에 대한 '인식적 지도 그리기'라는 실천적 행위로 조심스레 이름 붙여본다. ■ 부산시립미술관

"Vision and Perspective 1999-2017: Cognitive Mapping" is a representative exhibition to present and retrace various aspects of the exhibition series "Vision and Perspective," which was showcased by the Busan Museum of Art to support young artists since its foundation. ● The exhibition "Vision and Perspective" is a program based on the purpose of exchanging new intellectual and emotional critical minds, and introducing young artists to challenging the established art system and discourse. This year in 2017, ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Museum in 2018, the exhibition was organized sprouted from the idea of understanding accumulated documents and their overall meanings. ● The exhibition collects and categorizes the history of 13 series of "Vision and Perspective" from 1999 to 2017 in its own interpretation. It is categorized in four different themes. The exhibit presents individual artists that participated in each series, and re-contextualizes key elements of their featured work from "Vision and Perspective," connecting and showing the relationship between the four themes.   01/Technology/Media/Mass Culture : New media environment and the responses 02/City/Space/Separation: Transformations of urban surroundings and and isolated life 03/Daily/Others/Identity : Daily as the sign, Anonymous individuals 04/Strategy/Reinvstigation/Rethiking: System and men, idea and institution, for the politics of liberation   The four themes and their individual elements are connected to a disaggregated space of time in our society over the period of twenty years. Such being the case of our society today, those considered to be separated from art, such as politics, society, and economics, history is not regarded as a piecewise concept. It may be misunderstood in limited appreciation of art works or excessively simplified in perception of a world that identifies different scenarios limited to specific subject matter. If the art works of 63 artists and the artists introduced through the thirteen exhibitions are effective in sparking the consideration of the value of life as another representation of our society, then the exhibit has provided a medium to forecast signs of what our current reality may be considered in the future. Conversely, the artist being is not a virtual existence that only sees and translates the world through their perception but rather a real existence who lives, creates, and experiences the space of time in fluid environments. Twenty years in the space of time cannot be divided by the changes in society. To focus on this aspect, the four themes are suggested as avenues to understand the time span of two decades. ● The project to support young artists through the exhibition "Vision and Perspective" is also a way to be involved in artists' works by the Museum. This exhibition introduces artists' key words, artist interviews, artist backgrounds, and their impressions of the exhibition. With this, various stories of "Vision and Perspective" were gathered and archived which lead to the gradual understanding of the individual artist elements. This process will gently approach the goal through the multiple repetitions of dividing and combining the world. To speak in roundabout, this exhibition is not capable of completing its original desire. So it is carefully named a "Cognitive Mapping," a practical exercise about "Vision and Perspective". ■ BUSAN MUSEUM OF ART
