예술놀이터-즐거운 하루, 오늘!

놀이터를 생각하면 무엇이 떠오르나요? 정글짐, 시소, 그네 그리고 친구들과 함께했던 여러 가지 즐거운 놀이? 누구나 한번쯤 신나게 놀다 집에 돌아갈 시간을 잊어버린 기억도 있지 않나요? ● 2017년 고양어린이박물관은 어린이의 발달에 중요한 놀이와 예술에서 공통적으로 발견되는 '즐거움(유희성)'을 주제로 개관 1주년을 기념한 첫 번째 기획전 – 『예술놀이터 '즐거운 하루, 오늘!'』을 개최한다.

『즐거운 하루, 오늘!』은 어린이가 '처음 만나는 박물관' 어린이 박물관에서, '처음 만나는 예술을 놀이와 같이 즐겁게 경험할 수 있는 방법은 무엇일까?' 라는 고민에서 출발했다. 아이들은 놀이 하듯 오감을 활용하여 예술가들의 상상력에 의해 탄생한 예술작품과 마주 서서 자유롭게 대화, 소통, 감정이입하며 고정된 의미해석을 넘어 이성적이면서도 감성적인 접근을 통해 예술에 내재되어 있는 아름다움과 자신만의 구조, 조화, 규칙 등을 발견한다. 그리고 이 과정에서 자신만의 상상적 세계를 구성하며 즐거움을 느낀다. 이러한 예술경험의 축적은 어린이들에게 창의력, 감수성, 호기심을 발달시키는 원동력이 되고 나아가 삶을 풍요롭게 하고 타인과 공감하며 조화롭게 살아가게 하는 힘이 되어줄 것이다. ● 고양어린이박물관에서는 『즐거운 하루, 오늘!』에서 동시대 현대미술가 권오상, 안규철, 하이브의 조각, 사진, 설치, 인터랙티브 미디어아트 작품을 통해 아이들이 놀이터에서 놀이하듯 자연스럽게 체험, 감정이입, 감상하며, 조화롭고, 창의적인 어른으로 성장하는 바탕을 마련하고자 한다.

사진이미지를 입체화하여 조각의 전통성을 전복하는 형식의 사진조각 형식을 시작으로 평면과 입체를 다루는 방식에 대해서 연구하는 권오상 작가는 이번 기획전에서는 공간, 작품, 작품에 대해 어린이의 이해를 도울 수 있는 워크테이블을 구성하였다. 그는 따뜻하고 부드러운 색으로 가득한 공간에 아이들이 우리 주변에서 쉽게 발견할 수 있는 일상사물의 사진이미지를 활용하여 사진이미지를 조각으로 그리고 다시 사진으로 찍은 「플랫 The Flat」, 편평한 부조 형식의 「릴리프 Relief」, 매달려 있는 조각 「모빌 Mobile」, 2차원의 이미지를 거대한 구조물 형식으로 만든 「뉴 스트럭쳐」 등 다양한 형식의 조각 작품을 구성했다. 특히 3미터 높이의 「뉴 스트럭처」는 아이들이 자연스럽게 작품 사이를 자연스럽게 오가고, 감상하며 예술작품 이미지가 된 친숙한 사물들을 발견하는 시각적인 즐거움을 경험할 수 있다.

인간이 접하는 공간과 일상사물, 사회와의 관계, 관람객의 작품참여에 관심을 가지고 있는 안규철 작가는 어릴 적 마당에 펼쳐진 천 사이를 오가며 놀았던 기억을 바탕으로 밝은 빛이 스며드는 천으로 만들어진 「이중나선」 미로를 통해 정해진 길이 아니라 자유롭게 미로사이를 넘나들며 미로 공간 속의 나, 그리고 그 안에 함께 있는 타인을 발견하며 '관계'를 인식하도록 한다. 또한 「머무는 시간」에서는 1초면 바닥으로 떨어지는 공이 레일 위에서는 일정한 속도로 굴러가도록 하여 일상적으로 흘려가는 시간의 흐름을 관찰하도록 유도, 시작과 끝의 개념을 자연스럽게 전달한다. 이들 작품을 통해 관람객은 자연스럽게 작품을 몸으로 느끼고 눈으로 관찰하며 정해진 규칙이 아닌 나만의 방식으로 해석하고 경험하는 즐거움을 발견할 수 있다.

과거의 나는 어떻게 움직였을까? 하이브 작가는 우리를 둘러싼 환경에 관심을 가지고 관람자에 의해서 완성이 되는 작품을 제시한다. 「순간 Moment」, 「4중주 Quartet」 에서 타임머신을 탄 듯이 과거의 나의 모습을 관찰하며 또 다른 현재의 모습을 다양하게 연출하며 스스로 작가가 되고, 작품이 되는 예술적 체험의 기회를 제공한다. 「나뭇잎 Leaf」에서는 다음 사람을 위한 메시지가 나뭇잎이 되고 다음 사람에 의해서 떨어지도록 하여 타인의 기억을 공유하며 사람 간의 연결된 기억과 관계에 대해서 생각하도록 한다. 작품 체험과정 속에서 아이들은 자연스럽게 누군가의 기억을 공유하며 이러한 경험을 통해 삶의 의미를 깨닫는 기쁨의 순간 속에 있게 될 것이다. ● 고양어린이박물관 기획전 - 『예술놀이터 '즐거운 하루, 오늘!'』에서 아이뿐만 아니라 가족이 함께 예술 작품을 직접 보고, 체험하며 '예술의 유희성'을 경험하는 과정 속에서 우리 주위 모든 곳에 존재하는 예술을 인지하고 자아, 일상의 의미와 삶의 행복을 발견할 수 있을 것이다. ■ 고양어린이박물관

What occurs to you when you think of a playground? Jungle gym, seesaw, swing, or various games you played with your friends? Many of you must have a memory of getting too excited while playing and forgetting that you needed to go home. ● Goyang Children's Museum is happy to present 'A-Mazing day, Today!,' its first special exhibition organized in celebration of the museum's first anniversary on the theme of 'joy' (playful characteristic) found commonly in games that are important for children's development and art. ● 'A-Mazing day, Today!' started from the question of how children experience art — which they encounter for the first time — as joyfully as when they play games, at the museum that they visit for the first time. Children use their five senses as if in play when they face artworks created through the imagination of artists, freely conversing, communicating and empathizing with them and finding the inherent beauty and unique structure, harmony, rules, etc. of each of them based on rational and emotional approaches, transcending restricted interpretation of meanings. As they do that, they will feel the joy of constructing an imaginative world of their own. Accumulation of such artistic experience provides the driving force for children in developing creativity, sensitivity and curiosity. It will also enrich their life and help them to live harmoniously. ● With the special exhibition, Goyang Children's Museum hopes to offer a basis for children to grow into harmonious and creative adults by experiencing, appreciating, and empathizing with sculptures, photographs, installations, and interactive media art pieces by contemporary artists GWON Osang, AHN Kyuchul and HYBE, as if playing games on playground. ● GWON Osang, who explores ways of handling flat images and three-dimensional figures with 'photo-sculpture' subverting the conventionality of sculptures by turning photo images into solids, organized the work table to help children's understanding of space and artworks. In a space full of warm and soft colors, he presents sculptures of various different formats including The Flat, which was created by transforming photo images of daily objects that children can easily find around them into sculptures and taking their photos once again; Relief, a sculpture in the form of flat relief; Mobile, a hanging sculpture, and New Structure, in which two-dimensional images have turned into a huge structure. Notably, the 3m high New Structure allows children to experience visual pleasure as they move through the work casually and discover familiar objects changed into artistic images. ● AHN Kyuchul is interested in the spaces and common objects encountered daily by people, their relationship with society, and participation of viewers in artworks. He created Double Helix maze using sheets of thin cloth that pass bright lights based on his childhood memory of playing between sheets of cloth hanging in the backyard, letting viewers move around the maze freely, without following set routes, find themselves and others in the maze, and recognize their relationships. With Lingering Time, he leads viewers to observe the usual passage of time through the work in which balls are set to roll down at a regular speed, delivering the concepts of beginning and end in a natural way. Viewers can feel and observe the works casually, finding fun in interpreting and experiencing them in their own ways, and not sticking to set rules. ● How did 'I' of the past move? HYBE takes interest in the environment surrounding us and offers works that are completed by viewers. With Moment and Quartet, viewers can be artists and take part in artworks themselves, while observing themselves in the past as if in a time machine and expressing their presence in various ways. In Leaf, the message for the next person becomes a leaf, who in turn, makes it fall down. Viewers can share other people's memories and get a chance to think about relationships and memories connected with others. By experiencing the work, children will be able to feel the joy of sharing someone else's memory and getting an insight into the meaning of life. ● Visit Goyang Children's Museum and enjoy its special exhibition 'A-Mazing day, Today!' where children and all family members can observe and experience artworks as well as feel the playful characteristic of art, while recognizing art that exist everywhere around us and discovering the meanings and happiness of everyday life. ■ Goyang Children's Museum
