난지10년 NANJI 10 YEARS

난지미술창작스튜디오(이하 '난지')는 서울시립미술관에서 운영해온 대표적인 창작 지원 프로그램이다. 2006년 서울시의 유휴공간 활용 정책과 맞물려 개관할 당시에는 작업 공간 제공에 머물렀던 지원 사업이 10년이 막 넘어가는 시간을 거치며 아티스트 레지던시 프로그램으로 한 단계 성장했다. 출신 작가/연구자의 수가 300여명을 넘어간 소기의 성과를 이룬 시점에서, 그 동안의 기억과 과정을 찬찬히 되돌아보고자 아카이브전을 마련했다. ● 전시는 난지 발전의 분기점이 된 주요 사건들을 일별한 타임라인으로 시작한다. 이어서 '난지의 프로그램'에서는 아티스트 레지던시 프로그램으로서 그 정체성을 보여주는 난지의 주요 프로그램들을 전시/연구/교류라는 분류 아래 살펴본다. 마지막 '자료 바깥, 기억 속 난지'에서는 레지던시에서 부대끼며 난지를 함께 만들어갔던 이들의 기억과 경험 속에 흩어져 있는 난지의 모습을 수집한다. 한편, 이번 전시는 출신 작가들의 다양한 참여로 만들어졌기에 의미를 더한다. 난지에 10년간 설치되어 있었던 옛 간판과, 마찬가지로 실제로 사용돼온 폐라꾸라꾸 침대가 전시를 위해 각각 작업과 디스플레이 테이블로 재해석되었다. ● 이번 전시는 난지 출신 작가들과의 협조와 협업으로 만들어졌다. 설문지 답변을 포함해 난지의 옛 간판을 작업으로 풀어내고, 10년동안 실제로 사용돼온 폐라꾸라꾸 침대를 디스플레이 테이블로 재해석하는 기지를 발휘해 준 작가들 덕분에 지난 시간들을 전시에 되살릴 수 있었다. ● 레지던시 프로그램으로서의 기본을 만들어온 과정으로 난지의 첫 번째 10년이 마무리되었다고 정리한다면, 『난지10년』展은 숨을 한 번 가다듬고 새로운 10년을 상상해볼 좋은 계기이다. 그동안의 시행착오들로부터 쌓여온 질문들이 전시를 통해 난지의 청사진을 그리는 데 필요한 밀거름으로 발전하기를 기대한다. ■ 난지미술창작스튜디오

SeMA NANJI RESIDENCY (SNR) is Seoul Museum of Art's main artist support program. At the time of its founding in 2006, it was a project which provided artists with studio spaces in line with the City of Seoul's policy to invigorate unused spaces in the city. In the 10 years of the program, SNR has developed a step further, transforming into an artist residency program. Having produced over 300 artists and researchers from residency, this archive exhibition endeavors to reflect on the memories and process of the program up to present. ● The exhibition is divided into three sections. First, a timeline of SNR reflects on the past, pivoting on events that laid the foundation of the residency program. The second section 'Program at NANJI' presents major activities that demonstrate the identity of SNR as a residency program, under the categories Research/Exhibition/Exchange. The empty spaces that have not been archived in the official history will be filled slowly with the memories of individual artists through video and survey in the following section. ● This exhibition was produced with the cooperation of former residency artists at SNR. In addition to the survey, the moments from the past were recollected in the exhibition, thanks to artists and their works, including the transformation of an old signpost of Nanji into an art work, and reinvention of an old Lakulaku folding bed that's been in actual use for the last 10 years into a display table. While the exhibition wraps up the first 10 years of SNR and its process of establishing its foundation as a residency program, this exhibition also presents an opportune moment to take a breath and imagine the next 10 years to come. Hopefully, the questions produced in the history of the institution propel the audience to expand their minds in imagining the new possibilities for SNR. ■ SeMA NANJI RESIDENCY
