평소 이주자에 대한 관심이 많았던 이환권 작가는 2015년 세계 이주자의 날 캠페인의 일환으로 IOM 한국대표부, 서울시와 함께 서울광장에서 결혼 이주자의 자녀인 삼남매 조각상을 전시 해 국내외에서 많은 관심을 모았다. 2016년에는 삼남매 조각상과 더불어 탈북 배경을 지닌 남성과 한국 여성의 결혼을 소재로 한 작품을 추가 해 총 네 작품을 선보였다.

올해 작품의 주인공 부부가 편견을 극복하고 결혼에 성공해 그 누구보다 행복하게 살아가는 모습에 큰 감명을 받았다고 말하는 이환권 작가는 "이러한 의미 있는 캠페인을 통해 한국 사회에서 이주자는 나와 다른 사람이 아니라 나의 가까운 이웃이고 가족도 될 수도 있다는 생각을 하게 되었다"라고 밝혔다.

이 전시는 이환권 작가, 국제이주기구 (International Organization for Migration, IOM), 서울시가 함께 하는 2016 세계 이주자의 날(12.18) 캠페인 『당신의 이웃은 누구입니까 II (My Migrant Neighbor II)』를 위해 계획되었습니다. ■

Yi Hwan Kwon has a special interest in migrant issues and in 2015, began to collaborate with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Seoul for its awareness raising campaigns. Yi and IOM Seoul successfully conducted 2015 International Migrants Day campaign 'My Migrant Neighbor' which presented Yi's three-metre high sculptures depicting siblings of a marriage migrant mother and a Korean father. For this year's campaign 'My Migrant Neighbor II', Yi added one more sculpture of a very special couple, a North Korean man and a South Korean woman, making the total number of sculptures, four. ● Yi was impressed by the couple who broke stereotypical views and succeeded to get married. "By participating in this meaningful initiative, I learned that migrants are not strangers to me. In fact, they can be my neighbors and even family members" he said. ● The exhibition is part of 2016 International Migrants Day (Dec 18) campaign 'My Migrant Neighbor II' co-hosted by International Organization for Migration and Seoul Metropolitan Government.
