함영저화 Hahm-Young-Jeo-Hwa

『춘추』전은 학고창신(學古創新)의 실현을 목표로 기획한 전시다. 2010년 『장왕고래(章徃考來)』라는 주제로 첫 발을 떼었다. 2015년 가을에 열었던 『추사와 우성』전이 두 번째, 이번 『함영저화(含英咀華)』전이 그 세 번째다. ● 무거운 주제를 소화하기가 쉽지 않았다. 어렵고 더디게 이어나가고 있다. 이번 전시는 중국 고문물전으로 꾸몄다. 신석기 시대부터 청대에 이르기까지 장장 6,000여 년에 걸쳐 일상 생활 속에서 만들어진 중국의 문물과 공예품을 소략하게나마 한 장소에서 살펴보게 하였다. 각 시대별로 선별하여 도자기 33점, 옥제품 28점, 금속제품 13점, 문방구 및 기타 공예품 57점 등 총 131점이 출품됐다.

현대를 접어두고 오로지 중국 고문물만으로 전시를 꾸민 의도가 무엇인가. 지금까지 앞만 보고 달려온 발걸음을 잠시 멈추고 더 나은 내일을 위하여 회고의 시간을 가져보자는 생각이다. 전통의 숲 속으로 돌아가보고자 하는 시도이다. 우리 전통의 원류인 중국의 옛 문물을 깊이 있고 폭 넓게 살펴보고, 그 안에 담겨있는 선인들의 예지를 체득하여 시대를 초월하는 창작물을 만들어내는 자양을 제공하기 위함이다. 전통에 깊이 들어가 본 사람만이 전통에서 멀리 벗어날 수 있다.

주제를 '함영저화'로 정했다. 백화제방한 봄날의 정원 같은 중국 고문물의 숲 속에서 꽃봉오리를 입에 물고 꿀샘에 고여있는 꿀맛까지 보자는 의미이다. 향기로운 꽃봉오리와 달콤한 꿀물을 안으로 삼키고 삭혀서 가을날 큰 열매로 토해내기를 기대한다. ■ 학고재

'Spring and Autumn' is an exhibition project that aims to fulfill the idea of 'Hak-Go-Chang-Shin'(學古創新, to create new things by learning the old). It took its first step in 2010, with the theme; 「Jang-Wang-Go-Rae」(章徃考來, to see into the future, one must understand the past). After the second exhibition, 「Chusa Kim Jeong-hui, Woosung Kim Chong Yung」 in 2015, 「Hahm-Young-Jeo-Hwa」(含英咀華, to enjoy and relish the beauty of art) is the third 'Spring and Autumn' exhibition. ● It was difficult working with such heavy themes but we are slowly, yet determinedly moving forward. In this exhibition, we are presenting numerous ancient Chinese artworks and craftworks created within over 6000 years, from the Neolithic Age to the Qing Period. Selecting and classifying chronologically, we are presenting 33 potteries, 28 jades, 13 metal goods, 57 stationeries and craftworks; 131 pieces in total. ● The reason we decided to present only ancient Chinese artworks instead of Modern or Contemporary art is to propose a chance to halt the journey going restlessly forward and reminiscent the past for a better future. It is an attempt to return to the forest of tradition and be reminded the importance of tradition. We aspire to offer the nutrition for art that transcend time, by learning the knowledge of our predecessors, through closely studying the ancient Chinese artworks, which is the origin of Korea's traditions. One can look forward to the further future only after appreciating depth of their traditions. ● Our theme for this exhibition is 'Hahm-Young-Jeo-Hwa'(含英咀華). It contains the longing to hold the 'flower' in the mouth and taste the honey in the nectary in the forest of ancient Chinese art. We anticipate swallowing the fragrant flower and sweet honey, and yield something better, as yielding fruit in the fall. ■ Hakgojae
