사람들은 해골을 보면 죽음을 떠올린다. 슬픔, 이별 등의 감정적인 요소들과 결합한 죽음의 이미지를 외면하고 싶어 하는 것이 보통이다. 죽음이 가져오는 모든 행위의 정지 상태, 육체의 소멸 상태보다 다양한 동작과 표정이 살아있는 상태에 익숙한 탓이다. 하지만 해골이 인간이라는 객체의 외형적인 물질적 변화일 뿐만 아니라 내재되어 있는 무형의 영속적 존재로서의 의미 또한 갖는다. 형상을 통해 인지되어 삶과 죽음의 이분법적인 구분 선이 아니라, 형상과 삶, 그 너머의 것이라고 할 수 있는 본질인 것이다. 현실의 정신적 궁핍과 압박에서의 도피 라기보다는 현실을 직시하고 탈출구를 모색하려는 의지를 표현했다.

태어남과 성장의 과정에서 축적, 형성된 본의와 타의의 익힘으로 인해 당연시 길들여지고 익숙해져 왔다. 이 모든 것들이 사라지고 다시 들어서는 반복 속에서 인간들의 소유 하고자 하는 욕구 또한 늘 새로운 형태로 존재하게 된다. 하지만 다양한 변화 속에서도 의지의 본질은 변화하지 않는다는 것이다. 나의 작품에서 해골과 돌을 함께 표현한 것은 돌과 인간의 유사성을 인식 한 데서 비롯한다. 인간과 마찬가지로 돌 역시 자연 속의 암석들이 외부의 작용에 의해 부딪혀 깨지고, 깎이면서 형태가 변하는 반복의 과정 속에서도 돌의 단단한 고유 성질을 유지 하듯이 내·외적인 작용과 반응의 관계를 통해 형상의 변화를 겪어나가기 때문이다. ■ 김정권

People come up with the idea of death when they see skeletons. It is common that people avoid the imagery of death, to which they relate emotional factors such as sorrow and parting. That's because people get more accustomed to the state that has meaningful look and various motions than the stationary state and the extinction of body caused by death. However, skeletons exist as something intangible and permanent as well as are physical and external changes of the object of human. Skeletons are essence beyond shapes and life, not a division between death and life by a dichotomous perspective recognized through shapes. Through the subject of skeletons, I've tried to express a will to seek out the exit beyond the reality facing it at the same time rather than the escape from the mental poverty and pressure. ● We've taken it for granted that we are brought up and tamed, by learning on one's own will and on others' formed and accumulated during the process of birth and rowth. In endless repetition between appearance and disappearance all things suffer, the possessiveness of humans has always existed as a new way. However, it is essence of will that doesn't change among a variety of changes. The expression of stones accompanied by skeletons in my works derives from the recognition of the similarity between stones and human being. Like human beings, stones also go through the changes of shapes via the relationship between internal and external action and response. That is, in nature, stones maintain their characteristics during the repetitive process of their shapes changing while being broken and cut by outer reactions. ■ Kim Jeong Kwon
