안녕, 생명의 비약(Hello! Elan Vital)

7, 8월의 여름, 여름보다 더 뜨거운 만남이 있다면, 아마도 그것은 세상의 껍질을 벗겨내는 작가의 시선이 가 닿는 곳, 그 눈빛이 발견하는 벽 너머의 세상과 창작의 열정이 만나는 순간에 발생하는 에너지일 것이다. 그 순간이란, 우연과 필연이 무수히 쌓이고 또 겹쳤던 시간과 공간을 뚫어내는 창작의 순간이다. 그 의미는 삶과 예술의 원천에서 길어 올린 한줄기 빛 혹은 물처럼 스스로 생성변화하는 예술의 감성이고 창작의 정신이다. 이번 『생명의 비약』전은 서로 다른 문화 속에서 살아가는 3인의 아티스트가 '로드워크'를 통해 개인이 경험한 감성의 결을 드로잉으로 완성해 가는 작업이다. '로드워크', 어느 도시의 한 복판 혹은 길 모퉁이 오래된 흔적과 겹쳐지는 현재의 시간들, 그 속을 거닐고 대화하고 또 서로의 감성이 가닿는 곳에서 같지만 다른 이야기로 거리를 채운다.

우리는 지금 이 순간에도 쉬지 않고 삶을 호흡한다. 너 혹은 나는 흐르는 시간 속에 몸을 담고 창작의 열정이 뚫어내는 영원성을 만나러 간다. 너도 나 역시 그 길에 동행한다. 지난 여름에 저장된 기억의 편린들이 저녁노을에 실려 이내 깊은 어둠 속으로 사라진다. 다시 여름에 실려온 기억은 같지만 다르다. 사막을 걷다가 오아시스를 만나면 갈증부터 해소한다. 현대인의 갈증, 갈망들이 다시 달려든다. 도시의 사막을 걷는다. 그곳에서 오아시스를 찾는다. 안녕, 생명의 비약! 너는 오아시스를 그린다.

'로드 워크', 예술가의 감성이 도시의 감성과 만나 예술이라는 옹달샘 하나 가슴 깊이 심는다. 또 여름이 오면 오아시스가 없는 곳에서 옹달샘물을 길어 낸다. 그렇게 창작은 탄생과 죽음과 재탄생을 반복하면서 새로운 생명의 비약으로 다시 태어나고 성장해 간다. 그래서 몸은 늙어도 마음은 자란다. 길을 걸으면, 아주 많이 오래 걷다 보면, 선입견이 벗겨진다. 다른 세상이 눈 앞에 펼쳐진다. 다른 마음으로 인사를 나눈다. 안녕! 새생명! 새예술! ■ 김옥렬

Artists get a kind of spontaneous zeal when they see the world and turn it into a new one with their own creative energy that is stronger than the sunshine in midsummer. The moment they create a work of art encompasses all of the accidents and inevitabilities that they get through to visualize the time and the space that they transcend in the artwork. The meaning of the artwork is like a ray of sunshine that comes from the source of their life and art. It is about artists' spirit of creativity that is like a hot spring that gushes out naturally. ● An exhibition, 'Hello! Elan Vital!' is about three artists who are from different cultures and express their experiences and artistic sensibility while doing their own roadwork. They complete their long run by drawing their own story and sympathizing very strongly with one another as contemporary artists who live in the same age. ● A word, 'roadwork' is a long run that is about how they make their own story and converse with one another about it, so they can realize that each one of them is very unique in terms of what they find out emotionally about the universal truth while walking on a similar path and standing in the middle of a city that is not very unfamiliar. ● We are continuously breathing at the moment, which means that we can stay together in the eternity of the creative passion that artists have in their soul. The fragments of the memory of last summer vanish into the dark, which reminds me of how similar or different they are from how I feel about this summer. As artists find an oasis while working on their artworks, we satisfy our thirst by appreciating their artwork that can be an oasis. Hello! Elan vital! A true oasis!
