드로잉 행차도 Drawing of Procession

서울시립미술관은 2015년 가을 서소문 본관의 전시동 옥상을 새롭게 단장하여 'SeMA休(세마휴)'로 이름 짓고 시민들에게 개방하였다. 『SeMA休 아트월 프로젝트』는 SeMA休를 예술적 공간으로 조성하기 위한 벽화 사업으로서 올해 2016년에는 난지미술창작스튜디오 9기 출신인 김은형 작가의 작품 「드로잉 행차도」가 제작, 설치되었다. SeMA休는 아트월과 함께 미술관을 찾는 시민들에게 탁트인 하늘과 덕수궁이 내려다보이는 아름다운 전망을 선사하면서 더불어 좀 더 편안한 휴식공간이자 예술적 공간이 될 것이다. ● 김은형 작가는 최근 몇 년간 음악과 관련된 주제로 작업을 진행해왔다. 오페라와 재즈 공연을 감상하고 이에 받은 영감들을 드로잉으로 표현해왔다. 그는 음악뿐만 아니라 평소에 떠오르는 이미지나 생각들을 수집하듯이 모아놓으면서 이를 통해 작업의 실마리를 풀어나간다. ● 이번 『세마휴 아트월 프로젝트 2016』에서는 드로잉을 만들어내는 작가의 작업책상이 주제가 되었다. 16미터에 달하는 서울시립미술관 본관의 옥상 'SeMA休'의 한쪽 벽을 작가의 테이블로 변신시켰다. 벽 중간에 드로잉을 하는 본인의 손과 연필을 등장시켜 초현실적인 드로잉들과 자연스럽게 섞이도록 하였다. 왼쪽 끝에 등장하는 긴 드로잉 행렬을 선두 지휘하는 캐릭터는 음표를 머리에 이고 심장모양의 얼굴을 등에 지고 있다. 룰렛을 머리에 휘감은 캐릭터는 주사위를 던지고 있으며, 조명머리를 한 인간들이 음악과 드로잉을 감상할 준비가 된 포즈로 드러누워 있다. 기타를 연주하는 멕시코의 길거리 음악가, 스피커를 애무하듯 끌어안으며 스피커와 한 몸이 되어버린 캐릭터 등이 드로잉에 나타나는 음악적 영감을 보여준다. 길게 펼쳐진 오선지 위에 마치 음표들이 행차하듯 드로잉이 배치된다. ● 마천루에 둘러싸인 서울시립미술관의 옥상, 'SeMA休' 공간에 이와 같은 초현실적이고 유머가 있는 이미지들을 벽화로 제작함으로써 도시배경과 관람객들을 연결해주는 휴식과 같은 공간을 만들어낸다. ■ 서울시립미술관

The Seoul Museum of Art newly renovated the roof of the exhibition building, and named it 'SeMA Hue(休),' which has been open to the public since 2015. Transforming SeMA Hue(休) into an artistic space for a wall painting project, the 'SeMA Hue(休) Art Wall Project' presents Drawing of Procession, created by KIM Eun Hyung, the artist of 9th SeMA Nanji Residency. SeMA Hue(休) along with the art wall project provides a comfortable resting place for the enjoyment of art. ● For the past several years, the artist KIM Eun Hyung has been dealing with themes related to music in his work. In his drawing, Kim expresses the inspiration received from the appreciation of opera and jazz concerts. The basis from which Kim creates his work is not only through music, but also by collecting images and thoughts in everyday life. ● The working table that the artist creates his drawings on becomes the subject matter for the 'SeMA Hue(休) Art Wall Project 2016.' At 16 meters long, the wall on the roof of the Seoul Museum of Art has been turned into the artist's working table. The artist's hands and pencil appear in the middle of the wall, and is juxtaposed with other surrealistic drawings. A character appearing on the edge of the left side of the wall carries musical notes on the head and a heart-shaped face on the back. Another character with a roulette wrapped around its head is throwing a dice, while humans carrying lights on their heads are lying down, and appear to be appreciating the music and the drawing. Characters like the Mexican street musician playing the guitar, and another one hugging and caressing a speaker – becoming intertwined with it, shows the musical inspirations of the drawing. They are placed as if the musical notes are being processed on a long stretch of a music manuscript. ● The artist creates a wall painting with surrealistic and humorous imagery on the rooftop of the Seoul Museum of Art. Surrounded by high-rise buildings, 'SeMA Hue (休)' becomes a resting place that connects the audience to the urban city scape. ■ SEOUL MUSEUM OF ART (SeMA)
