A Space of Spores 홀씨의 공간

요술지팡이(Magic Wand) 작품 시리즈는 현재의 공간과 우주공간을 연결하는 열쇠의 역할을 가지고 있다. 현실에서, 이루지 못한 욕구들이 이념게이트라는 통로를 통해, 이상적인 절대공간으로 이동되는 작품이다. 현실에서 이루기 힘든 일들을 요술을 부려서 라도, 다른 공간에서 이루고 싶은 욕망을 그려낸 작업이다. ● 요술지팡이로 이동을 한 후 홀씨(욕구)들이 번식 할 수 있는 공간으로 행성(planet)을 만들었다. 홀씨들의 번식 장소를 이념게이트를 통해 발아하는 공간을 만든 것이다. 이렇게 생각이 우주라는 놀이터에서 형상화 시키는 작업들이 10년 넘게 해오면서, 공간의 연결이 되었다.

여러 개의 행성들은 연결이 되어 은하계가 되고, 그 안에서는 처음부터 끝까지 생명의 진화가 되어지는 과정들이 작업으로 나와 주었다. 기호적일 수 있는 이미지들은 잠복상태인 홀씨들에게 생기를 불어넣어 내재적 영역을 만들어 키워 내었다. 그 영역들은 반복적인 이미지가 계속 연출 되어 진다. ● 그 작품들을 이번 전시를 통해 요술지팡이와 홀씨들로 가득 찬 행성들을 볼 수 있다. 작업에서 보여 지는 섬세함은 그만큼의 욕구가 가득함을 표현한 것이고, 인간의 부족함은 메우고, 메워도 부족하다는 메시지를 알리려 한다. ■ 김소산

The series 'Magic Wands' holds the key that connects our reality with space in the universe. It illustrates the journey to an ideal, absolute space where an unstable thing in our reality turns into perfection as it travels through the gate of idea. ● Alone, each slowly germinating individual spore in its latent stage is my space of ideas. A meaningful space constructed by my self-consciousness goes into an ideological space. I create inner space by infusing life into these latent spores which exist in a symbolized imagery. A magic wand that links a living space to an outer space holds a significant key. With a touch of the magic wand, a chicken, a bird that cannot fly, is now moved to a desired place which was never possible before as a result of the change of consciousness. An absolute space is born in this new space. ● There are Black Holes, White Holes and Worm Holes which co-exist in this space. In my work, a tunnel in the Worm Hole stimulates the latent spores to be bred. The faster the Worm Hole spins, the safer the inside space becomes which results in such an optimistic space for latent time. Before being sucked into the Black Hole, the magic wand functioning like a key guides it to the Worm Hole which becomes my ideological space. The flow of magnificent life that blooms within the tunnel area is formed in a consistent pattern. This space, a rest space, is an important place where a certain length of latent time is allowed and where a cell division is ready to take place by the movements of unknown light source. With the help of the magic wand, the spores which are once engulfed into the Black Hole then spat out of the White Hole easily move to the ideal space (The Worm Hole) across the universe. As this process is repeated, the speed is accelerated and the stable spores are ready to reproduce in the latent space (The Worm Hole) and a new life image appears in regularity triggered by the unknown light source. ● The wooden material used in this work representsthe shell of the sporesand aluminum material that supports the wood symbolizes both the image and space of my idea. The destruction and creation are the natural laws in life. I focus on both the process and the movements of life energy rather than its destructive aspect. I consistently seek a link between the nature on earth and galaxy. As I repeat this search process, I sustain the core which would never shift its place regardless of rootless drifting and changes of environment. The core is NOW. It is an instantaneous now,a static now and a flow. There are continuum images of sporesand continuous cell divisions found in this flow. ■ KIMSOSAN
