팩션 그리고 이야기 Faction&Story

사람의 개성이나 가치관은 환경이나 경험에 의해 많은 영향을 받는다. 스포츠는 본인이 가장 좋아하고 관심이 많은 분야로 본인에게 많은 영향을 미쳤으며, 이러한 이유로 작품의 소재로 사용하게 되었다. 욕망(결핍)이 추구하는 대상은 허구이기 때문에 충족할 수는 없지만 삶의 원동력으로써 자기실현을 목표로 하며, 자아에 대한 성찰과 이해를 바탕으로 가치 있는 삶을 살고자 한다.

매스미디어에 대한 불신은 스포츠 스타의 표면적인 현상뿐만 아니라 이면에 드러나지 않는 요소들이나 맥락을 표현하는 계기가 되었으며, 매스미디어가 무분별하게 제공하는 많은 양의 정보를 비판적인 태도로 올바르게 수용하여 건전한 문화를 향유하길 바란다.

"스포츠를 어떻게 예술로 표현 할 수 있을까?"에 대한 물음에서 출발한 본인 작품은 익숙하고 친근한 이미지로 보다 원활한 소통을 위해 스포츠 아이콘을 기호로 사용한다. 그리고 팩션(Faction)으로 현실의 이슈나 실재사건을 바탕으로 재구성하여 사실이나 정보를 전달하기보다는 본인의 생각이나 메시지를 담아 욕망을 해소하며, 나아가서는 바르트(Roland Barthes)가 말하는 신화(Mythology)의 의미작용 체계를 이용하여 관람객과의 소통을 목적으로 한다.

이러한 의미와 내용을 바탕으로 패스티쉬 방식으로 이미지를 차용(appropriation)하며, 사실적으로 묘사하는 방법적인 부분은 포토리얼리즘과 유사하지만 대상을 바라보는 시각과 의도는 차이가 있다. 그리고 스토리텔링 방법으로 의도에 맞게 인물과 사건을 변형하여 작품으로 이야기하기의 형식을 취한다. ■ 정형대

One's personality or values are heavily influenced by environment or experience. Sport is the most interesting field for me and it has had great impact on me, which is the reason to choose it as the work material. The object that desires pursue cannot be satisfied since it is fiction but I intend to a lead a life for self-fulfillment and a valuable one based on self-examination and understanding as the driving force of life.● Distrust on mass media serves as an opportunity to express not only superficial phenomenon of sports star but their factors or contexts invisible for being on the other side and a number of thoughtless information provided from mass media should be properly accepted in a critical attitude to enjoy sound culture.● Starting from a question that "how sports can be expressed with art," my work utilizes sports icons for better communication with familiar and friendly images. It resolves desires with my thoughts or messages rather than delivering facts or information through restructuring realistic issues or actual events using faction and it further aims for communication with spectators using Barthes' meaning effect of myths.● Based on these meanings and contents, it borrows images with pastiche method and its methodological aspect is similar to photorealism but differs in viewpoint and intention to see the object. With storytelling method, figures and events are transformed for what is intended to tell them as a story in the work. ■ JEONGHYEONGDAE
