Sharing the Spotlight ● '반짝반짝 빛나는 눈부신 스포트라이트를 그대와 함께' 'Sharing the Spotlight with you' 본 전시는 이미 국내외 사진계에서 이름을 알리고 입지를 굳힌 작가와 그 작가의 영향을 받았으나 자신만의 작품 세계를 구축해가고 있는 젊은 작가의 만남을 통해 동시대 사진 예술의 한 흐름을 살펴보고자 시리즈로 기획된 전시입니다. 아트스페이스 J는 2013년 사진전문갤러리로 개관하면서 전국의 대학교 사진학과 교수님 열여섯 분을 모시고 『사진의 터』展을 개최함으로써 사진의 '새 터'가 되고자 하였습니다. 그리고 3년이라는 시간이 흐른 2016년, 그 터에 뿌려진 사진이라는 씨앗들이 어떻게 성장해 가고 있는지, 그 터는 과연 이들이

그 첫 전시로서 한국인의 잃어버린 경관과 풍경을 지속적으로 카메라에 담아내 온 홍익대학교 김대수 교수와 그의 제자로서 '건축조각' 연작을 해오고 있는 원범식 작가의 전시를 통해 사진을 위한 '새 터'로서 아트스페이스 J 본연의 구실에 한 발짝 더 다가서 보고자 합니다. 자신만의 예술세계를 꾸준히 만들어온 작가인 동시에 후학을 양성하는 길잡이이자 든든한 후원자로서의 김대수 교수와 그의 지도 하에 지난해 '일우사진가상'을 수상하며 작가로서 한 단계 도약하고 있는 원범식 작가. 카메라를 통해 시각적으로 구현된 이 두 작가의 작품은 현저히 다른 조형적 특질을 보이지만, 그 안을 관통하고 있는 일련의 요소들과 멘토와 멘티로서 주고받은 상관관계들을 살펴보는 일은 미학적으로도 가치 있는 일이며, 이들의 작품을 새로운 시각으로 바라볼 수 있는 기회가 될 것입니다. 2016년 봄, 스승과 제자가 만들어내는 멋진 시각적 이중주를 향유해 보시기를 바랍니다. ■ 아트스페이스 J

『Sharing the Spotlight』 is about the encounter between a renowned photographer and his inspirations on the works of his disciple. Since its first exhibition 『The Ground of Photography』, with works by sixteen professors of photography in 2013, Art Space J has been paving the way to establish itself as the new base for the art of photography in Korea. April 2016 marks the three year anniversary of Art Space J, and we take this chance to look back at our growth and invite back some of our favorite artists from the past exhibitions. ● For the first show of 『Sharing the Spotlight』, Art Space J invites Prof. Daesoo Kim of Hongik University and his disciple Beomsik Won. Kim, a highly established artist in the world of photography, is also known for his consistent support for younger generation of artists. Won, who is gradually gaining recognition today, has recently won Il-Woo prize in 2015 with "Archisculpture" under Prof. Kim's guidance. It is true that each work of Prof. Kim and Won, visualized by the frame of camera, has substantially different formative characteristics, nevertheless it will be an aesthetically as well as academically valuable opportunity to set their works side by side and explore the artistic exchange between the mentor and mentee with a new perspective. This spring, we hope that you will enjoy the duet by Daesoo Kim and Beomsik Won. ■ Art Space J
