거듭된 실패 Repeated failure

7년 만에 돌아오는 비행기 안에서 낙산사 여행을 잠시 상기해보았다. 문득 7년 전 출국 길에 보았던 미시마 유키오의 불타는 금각사도 떠올랐다. 여행을 하고 책을 읽으면서 내가 보고 싶어 했던 것은 어찌 보면 금각사의 문학적 의미도 낙산사의 역사적 가치도 아닌 그것들의 불타는 모습이 남긴 어떤 허상이었거나 불타서 사라져 버렸을 어떠한 허상에 관한 것들 이었을 것이다. 일상에서 마주하게 되는 거대한 사회속의 허구와 거짓, 그 안에서 움츠려드는 개인의 욕망과 좌절, 불안과 우울한 모습들을 다시 다가오는 겨울 앞에서 복기해 보면서 허상을 깨뜨려 나가는 일들의 반복을 거듭된 실패라 불러보았다. ■ 백승현

I thought about my trip to Naksan Temple on my flight back to Korea after living in Germany for seven years. I also remembered the book by Mishima Yukio called "The Temple of Golden Pavilion," which I read on my flight to Germany. While traveling and reading books, I don't think I was looking for the meaning of a literary work or the historical significance of cultural assets. The experience I wanted was becoming aware of one's personal delusions that may be "burned down" and disappear. As we approach winter, I reflect on the fictitious concepts and lies that one deals with in a society which he/she is in. I also think about one's personal desires that keep getting manipulated by such falsehood and the despairs that come afterwards as well as the anxiety and depression that one has to face.
