삶을 그리고 - 임석제 / 삶의 서정성에 귀를 기울이고 - 임인식 / 삶의 고요함에 숨을 죽이며 - 임정의 / 삶의 다양함에 생기를 주다 – 임준영 ● 『代代로 展』은 국내에서 대를 이어 예술작업을 해오고 있는 사진가 가문을 소개하고 한국 사진계에서 이들이 지니는 의미와 작품의 미학적 가치를 고찰해보고자 기획되었다. 그 첫 전시인 『代代로 展_The Big Flow(대를 잇다)』는 4대에 걸친 임석제(1918~1996, 從曾祖父), 임인식(1920~1998, 祖父), 임정의(1944~, 父), 임준영(1976~, 子)의 작품을 국내에서 처음으로 한자리에 모아 살펴보는 전시로서 임석제의 '광부•한라산 설경', 임인식의 '한국 풍경', 임정의의 '한국의 아침 시리즈', 그리고 임준영의 'Like Water(흐르는 물처럼) 시리즈'와 신작 등 70여점의 작품들을 통해 한국 사진 역사의 한 축을 살펴보고자 한다.

전세계적으로 유래를 찾기 힘든 4대에 걸친 본 전시에는 한국 리얼리즘 사진 1세대인 임석제의 예술사진 '한라산 설경' 작품과 한국전쟁 종군기자이자 항공사진 전문가로 활동했던 임인식의 '한국의 삶' 시리즈 빈티지 작품들이 처음으로 선보여 그 의미를 더한다. 특히나 이들 가운데 현재 제주시청 자료관으로 사용되는 제주시청 건물 앞 양떼 사진과 18살의 젊은 해녀 모습을 담은 사진들은 오늘날 보기 힘든 제주의 옛 풍경을 담고 있어 더욱 눈길을 끈다. 또한 한국 건축사진의 선구자로서 50여년 간 건축사진 작업을 해오는 가운데 틈틈이 한국의 풍경을 카메라에 담아온 임정의의 흑백작품들은 자연과 하나된 도시적 산물들의 몽환적 아름다움이 극대화되어 동양적인 신비로움을 드러내고 있다. 그리고 실존의 공간과 가상공간 사이에서 유유히 떠다니는 물의 형상을 인간의 생명으로 표현한 임준영의 'Like Water(흐르는 물처럼)' 시리즈와 시간성과 역사성, 그리고 문화가 공존하는 건축물의 디테일한 공간, 형태, 재질, 색감과 빛을 통해 건축적 아름다움을 표현한 'Architectural Form(건축적 형태)' 시리즈는 공간의 흐름을 시각적으로 보여주고 있다. ● 90여 년이라는 시간의 흐름 속에서 4대에 걸쳐 시대의 모습을 각기 자신만의 방식으로 카메라에 담아낸 『代代로 展_The Big Flow(대를 잇다)』가 전시장을 찾은 관람객들에게 사진가 외길 인생 '사진名家'의 뜻 깊은 시각을 공유해볼 수 있는 의미 있는 시간이 되었으면 한다. 더불어 본 전시의 오프닝 리셉션(2015년 11월 4일, 수 오후 5시)은 임정의 작가의 사진집 『The Great Half Century: 임정의 사진1』 출판기념회와 함께 진행되어 보다 뜻 깊은 자리가 될 예정이다. ■

『From generation to generation』 is designed to introduce eminent family making photography from generation to generation into general audiences and to examine esthetic value of their works and their significance within Korean art world. 『The Big Flow』, as the first show of 『From generation to generation』 series, is organized with the works of Lim Family, Seokjae Lim, Insik Lim, Jeongeu Lim, and Juneyoung Lim who have been making photography over four generations. This is the first attempt to exhibit selected works through four generations together in Korea and also one of kind in the world. ● As one of the first Korean realism photographers generation Seokjae Lim took a beautiful scenery in 「Snowy Landscape of Halla Mountain」 and Insik Lim who worked as a war correspondent during the Korean War and aerial expert photographer after the war, captured diverse aspects of ordinary living in Korea. Jungeu Lim well known for pioneer of Korean architectural photography has been capturing typical beauty of urban elements harmoniously blending with nature in 「Korea: The Land of Morning Calm」 series. His son, Juneyoung Lim continuously has kept focusing on visualization of certain space in which multiple factors coexist such as particular temporality, historicity and culture both in his ongoing 「Like water」 series and new works named 「Architectural Form」 series. ● Through these unusual pieces of work over four generations during 90 years which have been reporting the spirit of the age in each generation's own particular way, 『From generation to generation_#1 The Big Flow』 tries to inquire into a page of the history of Korean photography. And furthermore, this show would be meaningful experience for the audiences to share the eyes of the great families of Korean Photography who have been firmly kept one way life towards the passion for photography. ■ Art Space J
