미장센 Mise en Scène

미장센 ● 사람들은 시끄럽지만 광장은 말이 없다. 집회나 시위가 열리는 현장에서 광장은 연극 무대로써 결말이 없는 시나리오를 위한 씬을 마친 후에 또 다른 씬을 준비할 것이다. 사람들은 광장을 무대로 다양한 요구를 합창하여 배역을 충실히 수행한다. 역사가 가져오고 인간의 의지가 구성한 연극이 완성된다. 희미하게 보이는 사람의 움직임은 의미도 없이 그저 장노출된 필름 안에서 미장센이 된다.

싱크 리셋 ● 광복 70주년을 맞아 대한민국은 들떠 있었다. 정부는 이례적으로 8월 14일을 임시공휴일로 지정한다고 발표했다. 이 날은 침체된 내수 경기를 살리고자 전국 고속도로를 무료로 개방했다. 재각과 성국은 나의 오랜 벗이다. 재각은 안동 출신으로, 나와 같은 경기도 안성 소재 대학에 진학한 것을 계기로 인연을 맺었다. 성국은 나의 고향인 구미에서 어릴 적부터 알고 지낸 불알친구로 일본계 글라스 공장에서 3교대 생산직으로 일한다. 나는 8월 14일 0시 경부고속도로를 타고 구미로 갔다. 성국은 그날도 어김없이 출근했다. 성국과 하루를 보낸 뒤, 8월 14일을 얼마 남겨두지 않은 늦은 밤 다시 선산톨게이트를 통과하여 서울행 중부내륙고속도로에 올랐다. 재각에게 가기 위해서였다. 광복절에 무얼 할 것인지 미리 묻지 않았지만, 그가 서울에서 보낸 지난 10여년 동안 그날 무엇을 하며 보냈는지 알 것 같았다. 광복 70주년을 맞은 대한민국에서 적어도 우리 셋은 내수진작에 도움이 되질 못했다. 이 영상은 재각과 성국이 보낸 광복절 휴일을 촬영하고 선형 편집으로 나열한 것이다. ■ 노기훈

Mise en Scène ● People are loud, but square is silent. Square is a stage where a next scene is prepared after preceding scene ends. People rigorously play their role on the stage shouting out their demands together. The play is completed by history and the will of humans, but the story arrives nowhere. The splash of movements becomes meaningless mise-en-scène. Sync Reset ● Korea was excited celebrating its 70th Independence Day. The government announced that they made August 14 a temporary holiday. On that day, expressways of the whole nation were open free in order to revitalize the scared domestic economy. Jae-Kak and Sung-Guk are old friends of mine. Jae-Kak is from Andong and went to the same college as where I went in Ansung, and that’s how we became friends. Sung-Guk is an old buddy of mine from my hometown Gumi. We’ve been friends since our childhood. He is a production employee who works in three shifts at a Japanese glass factory. I got on Gyeongbu Expressway at 12 a.m on August 14 to go to Gumi. Sung-Guk went to work that day without exception. After I spent a night with Sung-Guk, I passed through Seonsan tollgate and got on Jungbu Naeryuk Expressway to Seoul. It was late night and August 14 was almost over. I did so because I wanted to see Jae-Kak. I never asked him what he is going to do on this Independence Day, but somehow I was able to guess what he has been doing in Seoul on every August 14 during the last 10 years. At least the three of us were not helping the domestic demands of our country that was celebrating its 70th Independence Day.
