협업과 융복합의 불편한 동거, 접합공간 ● 이 프로젝트는 지난 3년간의 플랜비의 불편한 동거(협업) 생활과 그 '과정'을 보여 주는 것을 목적으로 기획되었다. 플랜비라는 이름으로 다 같이 또는 개별적으로 활동하는 류한길, 윤지현, 김태윤은 각자의 전문 분야에서의 경험을 공유하며 2012년 한 상업적인 프로젝트에서 우연히 만나 불편한 동거를 시작한다. 이는 기술과 예술, 그리고 협업과 융복합이라는 전 국가적 시대 상황이 만들어 낸 미디어 예술가들이 처한 불편한 현실이기도 하다. 이후 몇 번의 전시와 레지던시를 거쳐 지금은 '아르코미술관 융복합 레지던스+랩'에 자리를 잡은 이 세 명의 작가는 개별적 의도들을 가지고, 일종의 합의의 공간으로 이 작업 공간을 활용한다. 세 명의 작가들은 각자의 격리된 공간에서 나와 이 공용의 작업 공간에서 합의를 이루어 보려고 하지만, 이 공간 자체는 다시 하나의 큰 조직 내부의 일부로, 또 다른 작은 격리된 공간이다. 이는 물리학에서 다루는 상대성 이론의 법칙이 미시 세계인 양자 역학의 세계에서 통하지 않는 것과 마찬가지로 '융복합의 세계' 어디에서나 일어나고 있는 문제이다. 접합공간(接合空間, union space)이란 이렇게 서로 다른 물리적, 사회적, 정치적 장치들이 접합하고 충돌하는 슈뢰딩거의 고양이의 공간과 같은 곳이다. 세 명의 개별적 주체(행위자)들과 그와 관련 있는 (사물이나) 사람들이 접합공간 내에서 특정 상태에 있을 기술적, 사회적, 예술적 확률은 얼마나 되는가? 그리고 다른 행위자인 예술 비평가나 관객들의 상태가 이들의 활동에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 접합공간이란 현재의 예술 행위자들이 이러한 과학적 방식들에 대해 시각적으로, 또는 청각적으로 얼마나 열려 있는지 자문해 보기 위한 감각의 공간이자, 인식 체계의 충돌과 수렴의 공간이다. 자, 당신은 이 불편한 접합공간을 열어볼 용기가 있는가? ■

Union Space, an Uncomfortable Cohabitation of Collaboration and Convergence ● This project was triggered to reveal how the three members of Plan B led their uncomfortable co-living with the purpose of collaboration for the last three years, with demonstrating the process of co-working. Three of artists, Hankil Ryu, JiHyun Yoon and Taiyun Kim have maintained their uncomfortable cohabitation by organizing the artist collective plan B while accidently involving one project together, where they shared the knowledge and experiences, working independently at the same time. This situation reflects the awkward reality that many of media artists face nowadays. We are surrounded by national agenda of 'Collaboration' and 'Convergence' and also required to specify those values. The Artists in residence + C-Lab run by Arko Art Center is currently utilized as a co-working space with shared and individual intention. Each artist tries to reach the consensus in this public realm out of personal space, yet it is still one part of large organization and becomes another kind of separated space within a whole. It is the same problem that happens in a "world of convergence" as if the theory of relativity could not be applied in the quantum physics of microscopic world. Union space is where the different physical and socio-political conditions join and collide just like the space of Schrödinger's cat. What is the technical, social and artistic probability that three of individual members and related factors would be fixed in the specific condition within this union space? And how the different group of people such as art critics or audiences could affect our activities? Union space is therefore the sensorial field that questions how much the artists of today are open to the scientific ways visually and acoustically and furthermore the space where the cognitive system crashes and converges. Well, would you dare to open this uncomfortable union space now? ■
