생활기행 A Trip of Life

『실험적예술프로젝트2015』는 『생활기행』을 키워드로 준비하여 지난 2년간 앞선 기획들의 연장선에서 신예미술가들의 실험적 활동을 소개하면서 동시에 다른 분야의 예술 활동을 함께 소개하고자 한다. 이를 통해 『실험적예술프로젝트2015』는 오늘날 우리의 예술과 현실이 "생활"이란 문제를 중심으로 회전하며 변화해 가는 당대 예술계의 현황을 확인하는데 주목하였다. ● 이번 전시는 현대미술이 일상생활이 현실세계로부터 동떨어져 있는 것이 아니라, 우리 생활 깊숙이 관계 맺고 자리하고 있음을 보여주는 전시이다. 현대미술과 함께 영화, 시문학, 디자인, NGO활동을 함께 연출하여 오늘날 시각문화의 다양한 의미와 형태를 생각하고 공유하는 프로젝트이다. 참여 작가들의 작품전시, 아카이브와 다큐멘테이션 등 다양한 협력프로그램으로 구성된다. 이번 전시는 대구예술발전소가 생산 공간에서 예술 공간으로, 그리고 다시 생활공간으로 상호 순환하는 구조를 은유하고 있다.

『생활기행』은 창작활동이 예술가에게는 생활이자 일상이지만 일반적인 일상의 시각에서 볼 때는 일종의 기행이다. 동시에 기행이란 말은 일상을 떠나서 여행을 떠나고 기록하는 것을 뜻하기도 하다. 많은 예술가들은 평범하지 않은 그리하여 매우 비범하기까지 한 "기행"에 가까운 삶을 통해 세계 속 존재로서 삶을 수행 하는 사람들의 문제를 둘러싼 비전과 형식을 표현하고 있다. 일상과 비 일상을 왕복하는 것이 평범한 삶이라면 예술가의 활동은 우리가 한 쪽에 쏠리지 않으면서 자기 자신의 내면의 문제를 반성하거나 개인이 속한 공동체의 복잡한 문제를 성찰할 수 있는 계기를 준다. ● 오늘날 예술은 조형예술의 형식만으로는 이상적 소통이 불가능하고, 작가의 라이프스타일 이야기방식, 감정의 표현과 운동, 생활리듬 등이 복합적으로 드러나고 작동하면서 비록 완전한 소통에 실패하더라도 한 예술가의 내면을 드러낼 수 있다. 예술가의 활동과 생활인의 활동이 한 개인 안에서 어떻게 충돌하고 대화하고 균형점을 찾는지 생각해보는 기획이다. ● 예술에서는 이론과 비평의 경험만큼 현실 속에서의 다양한 실제 경험이 필요하다. 그리고 이는 예술에 종사하는 사람만 해당하는 것이 아니라 어떤 형태로든 예술과 관계를 맺고 있는 사람 모두에게 해당 된다. 하나의 예술작품을 설명할 때 그 작품과 당대의 현실과 연결시킬 수 있어야 한다. 좋은 작품과 이론은 일상처럼 평범한 외형을 갖고 있더라도 어떤 형태로든 현실과 공명하는 부분이 있기 마련인 것이다. 그 역도 마찬가지이다. 새로운 성찰과 형식으로 확장하고 진화하는 일상의 삶은 "생활"이라는 이름으로 놀라운 개념이자 예술이 된다. 그리고 물론 그것은 우리가 발 담그고 있는 현실이다.

생활이든 예술이든 우리는 많은 미적 가치와 체계가 존재하고 있는 것을 알고 있다. 당대의 예술 또는 시각문화는 우리의 삶과 상호작용하며 분리할 수 없이 작동하고 있으며, 결국 사람이 중심인 까닭에 사람들의 마음의 움직임을 섬세하게 살피는 것이 중요하다. 따라서 어떤 활동과 현상이 기존의 예술의 스펙트럼 안에 들어가지 않더라도 그 안에서 의미 있는 미적 가치를 발견한다면 그것은 존중받아야 한다. ● 이번 『실험적예술프로젝트2015』 참여 작가들은 현대 미술가들을 포함해서 회화, 조각, 공예, 가구, 수집, 시문학, 건축, 영화, 커뮤니티아트, 사진, 설치미술, 시민참여 워크숍, 국제NGO활동, 도시농부, 대안교육 등 다양한 분야에서 활동하는 예술가, 활동가들이다. 이렇게 장르를 넘나들고 지역을 넘나들며 시간과 공간을 넘나드는 다원적 활동이 우리의 생활과 예술을 채우고 있다. ■ 김노암

'The experimental art project 2015' followed by art exhibitions held for the past two years, is an art project that introduces the viewer new artists' works and activities done in various fields with a key word, 'A trip of life'. It serves as a chance to examine the current circumstances of the contemporary art scene, in which art and reality today evolve accordingly to issues of our lives. ● The exhibition of 'The experimental art project 2015' is organized to show the viewer that modern art is very closely connected with our daily lives, not something that is out of this world. In addition to modern art, 'The experimental art project 2015' features with various genres, such as cinematography, poetry, design, and NGO activities, making people create values of art and share the meaning of it with each other. It consists of various collaborative programs, such as an exhibition of the participating artists' works, archive collections, and documentations, etc. It is a metaphoric event that reminds people of a mutual interaction, in which Daegu Art Factory can be a space of producing, a space of art, and also, a living space. ● 'A trip of life' is a term showing the viewer that the act of creating art is a great part of an artist's life, but can also be a kind of eccentricity viewed from a more general point of view. Also, 'A trip of life' means 'a traveller's journal' including the meaning of artistic visions and forms, in which lots of extraordinary artists' life and their concerns are reflected. If we consider that one's life should be ordinary, but unusual occasionally, artists' activities can make us examine ourselves and reflect on complicated issues of the community that we belong to without being biased. ● Art today cannot be understood only in the formative aspect. The inner side of artists can be revealed when we try to understand certain multiplicative factors, such as their own narrative, life style, emotional expression, and bio- rhythm although we cannot fully understand it. The intention of this project is to make the viewer think of how an artist balances his or her life as an artist and an individual. ● In the world of art, various experiences in one's real life are very important as well as experiences of those whose job is related to art theory and criticism. It is applied for both artists and all of the people who are related to art in any form. When a work of art is explained, the reality that the artwork is connected to should be examined. A great work of art and art theory have a lot of common parts that are related to our reality even if they look ordinary as our lives, which can be an amazing concept of art under the term of 'life' as they expand and progress through our introspection and new forms. Of course, it is reality that we live in. ● We know that there are a lot of different aesthetic values and systems in our lives and the world of art. Art and the visual culture of our times are closely related with our lives. The close observation of how people are moved emotionally should be considered important because, after all, we are all human beings. Therefore, any activity or phenomenon that have a meaningful aesthetic value should be respected even if they cannot be included in the conventional spectrum of art. ● The participating artists of this exhibition are those artists and activists who work in a lot of various fields, such as painting, sculpture, craft art, manufacturing furniture, collecting objects, poetry, architecture, cinematography, community art, photography, installation, managing workshops for citizens, activities of the international NGO, farming in the city, alternative education, including contemporary artists. The multi-functionality of these artists who cover a wide range of genres and occupy lots of area with their art and activities fills our lives, making them overcome time and space constraints. ■ No-am Kim
