Silent Memory

정유미의 개인전『Silent Memory』는 최근작인 드로잉과 회화 작품들로 구성된다. 그녀의 작업은 안과 밖의 경계인 '사이'에 관한 연구이며, 이와 함께 공간의 언어에 대한 탐구로서 반투명성이 강조된다. 이번 전시에서 보여지는 작품들은 작가가 아이스란드 레지던시 참여 기간동안 아이스란드의 도시 레이캬비크에서 걸어다니며 직접 관찰하고 경험했던 공간적 관계에 대한 다양한 기억들이다. 그 기억들은 작가의 상상과 화면의 재구성 과정을 통해 회화 작품들로 표현된다. 또한 그림에 나타나는 색감들은 레이캬비크 주변 환경으로부터 영향을 받았다. 이 회화 작업과 연결되는 주제로, 드로잉 작업은 레이캬비크의 반지하 창문들에 대한 이야기이다. 이는 안과 밖이라는 단순한 경계를 넘어, 밀실 공포증을 느낄 수 있는 공간적 거리에 대한 접근이다. ■ 정유미

『Silent Memory』, a solo exhibition by Yumi Chung, consists of recent drawings and paintings. Chung's work examines the boundary between the inside and the outside, with the emphasis on semitransparency to explore the language of space. In this exhibition, various memories, which were inspired by the spatial relations that she encountered on her walks through Reykjavík in Iceland during residency, resurface in the paintings after having undergone a process of recomposition. The colours of the paintings reflect the city's natural environment. Following a similar theme, Chung's drawings focus on the features of semi-basement windows in Reykjavik, closing the distance between the inside and outside into a claustrophobic space. ■ CHUNGYUMI
