에비뉴엘 아트홀은 생동감 넘치는 화법으로 자유로운 예술세계를 선보이는 존 버거맨의 전시를 진행합니다. 이번 전시는 존 버거맨의 작품들을 통해 저항과 자유의 상징으로 자리잡은 '그래피티(graffiti)'와 즉흥적으로 끄적거리는 '두들(doodle)'적 성향을 기반으로 새롭게 대두되고 있는 예술세계를 소개하고자 합니다. 영국 출신으로 뉴욕에서 활동하고 있는 존 버거맨은 벽에 낙서하듯 거칠고 자유로운 선으로 일상의 모습들을 그려나갑니다. 여기에 더해진 그의 유쾌한 유머는 우리의 일상에 새로운 에너지를 불어넣고 있습니다. 늘어진 팔과 다리, 어디서 튀어나올지 모를 눈을 가진 몬스터 캐릭터들은 괴상하지만 정감 넘치는 모습으로 화면에 나타납니다. 이번 전시에서 버거맨의 다양한 요소들은 자동차로, 그리고 집과 건물로 변신하여 거대한 버거월드를 구성합니다.

Avenuel Arthall delightfully presents the exhibition of Jon Burgerman who expands his creative art universe with playful drawings. The exhibition explores a newly presented art which has its base in graffiti. It symbolises a freedom with a doodle tendency. The artist was born in UK and currently works in New York. He depicts the scenes of life with bold and unchained lines. His enjoyable humor adds an atmosphere of new energy into our lives. The monster characters with dropped arms and legs, bulging eyes are showed in the various screens. The characters are transformed into cars, houses and buildings and together compose the Burgerworld. The artist creates his own familiar and original universe by placing the gestures of deviation and liberation. The Burgerworld, filled with the different types of mysterious organisms and located at the outside of logical boundaries, is re-created as an unexpected playful space. The encounter of vivid colors and black bold lines are the crucial ingredients of his unique characters. His works never allows to us get bored and alerts the energy of deviation that has been neglected in our daily routine. The Burgerworld connects organically with the characters, that are spontaneously produced, and the world creates a doorway which provides us with a sensation of freedom. ■ AVENUEL ART HALL
