황현화의 작업은 주어진 것에서 출발하지 않는 한 재현이 아니다. '이것' 으로부터 시작하여 '이것' 의 동일성을 지워나가는 차이의 반복이다. 선과 색을 재현하기 위해서가 아니라 어떤 작은 것에서 시작하여 그것의 동일성을 지워나간 결과의 과정으로서 나타난 선과 색이다. 물질과 작가와의 존재의 만남에서 강도의 차이에 따라 거칠게 때로는 부드럽게 그리고 긁고 부식하고 새기는 힘겨운 반복과 몰입의 과정을 통하여 생산된 자국이다. 그래서 시작점도 없고, 원본과 중심도 없으며 존재 방식에 따라 끊임없이 변화하며 증식할 뿐이다. 재료와 이미지는 작가의 관계에서 가야 할 곳이 없는, 가는 곳이 바로 목적지라는 것을 각인시켜주는 동반자다. 따라서 작가의 작업은 재현 불가능한 힘들과 파동, 또는 의식 속에서 부유하고 있는 어떤 것을 포착하고 잠시 형상을 빌려 존재케 하는 의지로서의 이미지다. 행위를 통하여 마음 속에서 메아리를 얻을 때까지 걷고 또 걷는 소요(逍遙)로서의 이미지다. ■ 최재성

The work of Hwang Hyun-Hwa is not a reproduction as long as it does not start from a given one. It is the repetition of differences, which begins from 'this' and clears the sameness of 'this.' It also represents the line and color, which has been initiated at some small thing but which has appeared as the result of the sameness of that, not to reproduce the color and line. That work is a mark produced through a process of tough repetition and engagement of being scratched, corroding, and being carved smooth and rough sometimes according to the strength. There is thus no starting point, nor source, nor center. It constantly changes only to multiply in accordance with the present method. The material and the image are a partner who clarifies her who has no destination to realize that the place where I go is the destination. Accordingly, Hwang's job is an image as a commitment that allows for capturing the power and wave difficult and impossible to reproduce or the thing that floats in consciousness, and that makes it possible to exist by lending a shape for a while. As with, my work refers to an image as a stroll(逍遙) of walking and walking till I get the echo in my mind through actions. ■ Choi JaeSung
