대구미술관은 고유한 예술세계를 인정받고 있으며 열정적인 활동을 펼치고 있는 작가를 통해 동시대 미술의 흐름과 양상을 소개하는 2015년 첫 전시로 이수경의 『내가 너였을 때』를 개최한다. ● 이수경은 전통적인 소재들을 현대적 조형 감각으로 해석한 작업들을 지속적으로 펼쳐왔다. 깨어진 도자기 파편으로 만든 「번역된 도자기」, 붉은 색 안료인 경면주사로 그린 종교적이며 주술적인 회화인 「불꽃」, 화려한 크리스탈 샹들리에와 아름다운 우리의 춤이 조화를 이룬 「내가 너였을 때」등 작품마다 작가는 전통을 새롭게 해석하는 작가만의 작품세계를 유감없이 보여주면서, 더불어 경험, 기억, 상처 등 인간 개인의 보편적인 문제까지 다루어 왔다. 이번 전시에서 작가는 나와 타자, 완전함과 불완전함, 의식과 무의식, 가상과 실제 등 서로 다른 층위에 존재하는 것들의 관계들을 더욱 복합적으로 담아내고 있다. 특히 처음으로 선보이는 「전생퇴화그림」들은 전생체험을 작품화하면서 의식에 통제 받지 않는 무의식의 세계가 얼마나 창의적이고 새로운지 보여준다. 동시에 서로 다른 존재들이 태고부터 모이고 흩어지는 것을 반복하여 언젠가는 너와 내가 같은 생명체로 태어날 수 있지 않을까 하는 작가의 흥미로운 생각도 담겨져 있다.

대구미술관 『내가 너였을 때』 전시는 이수경의 조각, 회화, 영상, 설치, 퍼포먼스 등 약 250여 점의 작품들로 구성된 대규모 전시이다. 무엇보다도 가장 주목해야 할 것은 장르와 매체를 넘나들며 고정되지 않은 정체성을 보여주는 작가의 예술에 대한 열정이다. 이번 전시에서 「번역된 도자기」로 익숙했던 이수경의 다양한 작업들을 다각적으로 감상하고 이해할 수 있는 기회가 될 것이다. ■

Daegu Art Museum has organized its first exhibition in 2015 titled When I Become You of Yeesookyung whose distinctive artistic world has been highly recognized, introducing the flows and trends of the contemporary art. ● Yeesookyung has continued to create works interpreting traditional materials in a modern formative sense. Translated Vases series made of broken ceramic fragments, the Flame series as religious and shamanistic paintings painted with cinnabar, aredpigment, and When I Become You, an installation with a note of Korea's beautiful traditional dance as well as afancy crystal chandelier. Yee exudes her unique artistic world to interpret traditions anew, addressing the mankind's experiences, memories and personal pain as universal themes. ● In the exhibition, Yee unravels diverse stories in a comprehensive manner on me vs. others, completeness vs. incompleteness, consciousness vs. sub-consciousness, and the fiction vs. real-life. The paintings titled Past Life Regression Painting introduced for the first time, inparticular, show how the world of sub-consciousness is creative and new which is not controlled by the consciousness through her creative work based on a former life experience. Yee's interesting thoughts are also contained that different beings repeatedly gather and scatter from the beginning so that someday, you and me could be born as the same creature. Daegu Art Museum's WhenIBecomeYoui salarge-scale exhibition housing about 250 pieces of her works including sculptures, paintings, videos, installations and performances. It is most noteworthy that her non-fixated identity crossing over genres and media can be discovered in the exhibition. This exhibition will offer an opportunity to comprehensively understand her passionate artistic activities, who has been well known with Translated Vases series ■
