Photogenic Drawings & at first sight

□ Photogenic Drawings / 8층 메인 전시장 「포토제닉 드로잉 시리즈 2010~」로 잘 알려진 사진가 구성수의 개인전이 분당 아트 스페이스 J에서 열린다. 이번 전시는 기존 사진의 예술성을 극대화하기 위한 새로운 사진의 가능성을 실천한 포토제닉 드로잉 시리즈가 현대사진의 확장된 영역으로 대중들에게 보여지기 위해 기획되었다. 포토제닉 드로잉은 찰흙에 야생화를 조형적으로 배치한 다음 고무판으로 눌러 음각을 만들고 이어 석고시멘트를 부어 굳힌 다음 양각의 부조를 만든 다음 채색하여 다시 사진으로 촬영하여 작품을 만든다. 작품의 결과는 조각, 회화, 사진매체가 혼합된 복수성의 작품이 완성되며, 이번 전시의 구성은 야생화, 낙엽, 그리고 모노톤의 신작으로 포토제닉드로잉의 다양한 시각들을 감상할 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다. 아울러 아트 스페이스 J 1층 로비에서 작가의 스케치 사진작품들이 소품의 형태로 150여점이 별도의 부스를 통해 전시된다. 작가는 사진의 복수성과 대중성이 전시를 통하여 확대되고 사진을 즐기는 문화를 만들어보려는 첫 시도로서 의미를 갖는다고 말한다. 두 공간의 동시적 전시를 통해 작가의 작품세계와 그 과정을 함께 보여주는 사진전시의 새로운 가능성을 실험하고자 하는 교감을 함께 공유하는 계기가 되었으면 한다.

□ at first sight / 1층 로비 작가가 그 동안 사물을 보는 시선과 시각에 대한 다양성을 시각화 한 스케치 소품 사진전으로 그동안 보여왔던 대형 작품과 달리 작은 소품 사진을 통해 관객과 소통하려는 전시이다. 이 전시는 연말연시를 맞이하여 대중 관객들을 배려한 작품들로 사진 작품을 통해 다시 한번 스스로의 일상을 둘러보게 되는 계기가 될 것이다. 사진 작품이 개인의 일상으로 들어와 즐길 수 있는 환경이 마련된 만큼 작가 스스로 목공 기술을 익혀 만든 하드우드 원목 프레임 작품을 소유할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것이다. ■

『Photogenic Drawings』: Eighth-Floor Gallery ● Photographer Koo Sung Soo, well known for his 「Photogenic Drawing Series 2010」, will hold his exhibition at Art Space J in Bundang, Korea. 『Photogenic Drawings』 which maximizes the artistic merits of the medium photography, is a special project to express the newly expanded possibilities of the photography to the general public. ● Each of the works in the 『Photogenic Drawing』 is created by the following process. First, a wild flower is arranged with roots intact and pressed on a flat layer of clay by a rubber plate to make a clay intaglio. After removing the flower, cement was poured, then hardened. By removing the clay, relief engraving is produced. The wild flower relief is then painted with the help of a picture or the actual flower. Finally, the painted plaster is photographed and printed. The result is an artistic combination of digital process and analog techniques. ● This particular exhibition will feature wild flower, foliage and the new monochromatic works which offer multiple aspects of the 『Photogenic Drawing』. Furthermore, 150 of Koo's smaller photographs are being showcased in the first-floor lobby of Art Space J. By holding these exhibitions in two different areas simultaneously, Art Space J and Koo's joint efforts to forge a new environment where multiplicity and popularity of the photography are highlighted. Through this project, Art Space J hopes to present a new possibility in photography exhibition, showcasing the photographer's works as well as a providing a glimpse into his artistic processes. 『at first sight』: First-Floor Lobby ● In the first-floor lobby, Koo reaches out to the general public with a special exhibition created for the holiday season. This exhibition will feature miniature photographs, which are street works about the city and the people. Photographer's multiple views on everyday matters are at the forefront of this exhibition, and Koo hopes to offer the viewers an opportunity to reflect on his or her own daily life. The frames, which were designed and built by Koo himself, add a meaningful value to owning the photographer's artwork. ■ Art Space J
