Escape from the Hill

성욕 해소를 위한 합의된 대상을 찾는 일은 결코 쉬운 일이 아니다. 그 과정에서 일부는 그들만의 기호를 이용하여 대상을 탐색한다. 예를 들어, 신체 사이즈와 성적 취향 등이 그러하다. 나열하기 힘들만큼 다양한 기호들 속에서 누군가는 원하는 목적을 달성하지만 누군가는 그 목적에 도달하기까지 힘든 과정을 겪기도 한다. 기호는 단순한 지시 작용을 넘어 욕망이 되기도 하며 때로는 이상형이 되기도 한다. 넘치는 욕망 속에서 사랑을 갈구하던 초심은 휘발되고 대상을 찾는 끊임없는 욕구만이 남게 된다. 전시에 참여하는 두 작가는 그들이 경험했던 비물질적인 감정이 사라지고 구체적인 대상(신체사이즈와 성적취향)만이 남는 상황 속에서 각자가 느꼈던 감정적인 부분들을 각기 다른 언어로 말하고자 한다.

본 전시에서 두 작가는 싱글채널 비디오 작업과 인터랙티브 설치 작업을 선보인다. 박테오의 설치 작업 「티티나를 찾으러 왔어요」는 데이팅 사이트의 게시판에서 얻은 신체 사이즈에 관한 데이터 베이스를 시각화 한다. 웹사이트에 게시되는 신체 사이즈를 실시간으로 출력하며 달콤한 무엇을 내뱉게 된다. 내뱉어지는 것들은 맛이라는 구체적인 감각으로 전달되지만 쉽게 사라져버린다. 안재영의 비디오 작업 「Gloria」은 그의 욕망을 채우기 위해 원치 않는 구강섹스를 해야만 하는 상황에서 느꼈던 불편한 지점들을 단순한 퍼포먼스로 기록하고 있다. 개구기를 이용하여 강제로 입을 벌리며 습자지를 핥는 행동은 이를 은유적으로 표현하고 있다. 반대로 다른 작업 「The end of the world」의 경우, 그가 원한 욕망을 달성한 순간 느꼈던 공허함과 무기력한 자신의 상황을 포르노의 이미지와 함께 합성한다. ■

It is never easy to find someone who can satisfy one's sexual desire under mutual consent. Some people navigate their way using their own preference like body sizes or sexual orientations on the process. Someone manages to find "someone" and accomplishes his/her goal despite of the countless preferences and sexual orientations, however, someone experiences painstaking process to reach his/her goal. These preferences are not only conditions to find someone but also becomes desires itself or even ideal type. The original intention that craves for true love is volatilized among the overflowing desires. And only the relentless urges to find the perfect conditions appear in front. The two artists try to express their feelings when only specific conditions(body sizes and sexual orientations) remains after immaterial sentiments are gone in their own languages. ● Two artists present single-channel videos and interactive installation works at this exhibition. Teo Park's installation, 「Je Cherche arpes Titine」, visualizes the data base (body sizes of people) from a dating website's bulletin board. The body sizes posted on the website are printed out in real time (through installation) and sweets are spited out of the vending machines. The sweets delivers the concrete sensation of taste to the audience but the sensation also disappears quickly. ● Jeayoung Ahn's video, 「Gloria」, is a documentation of a performance. This piece is about uncomfortable feelings the artist felt when he had to give oral sex reluctantly to fulfill his sexual desire. The artist shows this situation metaphorically by licking thin paper, forcing himself to open his mouth using a gag. On the other hand, 「The end of the world」 is a video piece about feelings of emptiness and lethargy the artist felt after he fulfilled his (sexual) desire. This piece is consists of various images from pornography. ■
