매뉴얼 MANUAL

본 전시는 작가의 작업지시서와 이를 현실화하는 시민들의 참여로 마련 되었습니다. 참여 작가에게는 동일한 재료들이 제시되었고, 작가들은 그 제한된 재료 안에서 작업지시서를 준비하였습니다. 그리고 준비된 작업지시서는 작가의 도움 없이 제 3자인 시민의 손에 의해 제작 되었습니다. 전시를 위해 70여명의 오산시민은 5일간 큐레이터 존칠버(John Chilver)와 함께 작가들의 작업 지시서를 바탕으로 작품을 제작하는 워크숍에 참여 하였습니다. 이러한 작품 제작 방식을 통해 작가를 작품을 제작하는 창조자의 역할이 아닌 주어진 재료 안에서 작품을 구상하는 연출자의 역할로 제한하고, 작품의 제작과정에 실질적으로 참여하는 시민들의 활동을 통해 예술 작품의 탄생 과정 안에서 간과되기 쉬운 '노동'의 역할에 대해 생각해보고자 합니다. 참여작가, 시민 모두에게는 시간당 최저임금인 5,210원이 지급됩니다. 작가에게는 2시간의 임금이, 참여시민들에게는 작업에 참여한 시간만큼의 임금이 지급됩니다. 제한된 동일한 재료 안에서 전혀 다른 작업을 구상해내는 과정과, 이러한 아이디어가 제 3자의 손을 통해 현실화되는 과정을 통해 완성되는 이번 전시는 현대 미술을 '재료'와 '노동'이라는 새로운 측면에서 고찰해 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공할 것입니다. 작업에 참여해주신 오산시민과 오산대학교 시각디자인과 학생들 그리고 행복동심학교 학생들에게 감사 드립니다. ■ 오산시립미술관 문화공장오산

This exhibition is consisted of artist's instruction paper and citizens who performed the instruction. Same materials were given to each participating artists, and the artists composited their instructions based on the given materials. After then, the written instructions were produced by the third party, the citizens, without the artists' presence. For this exhibition, about 70 Osan citizens spent 5 days with the curator John Chilver to produce the artwork based on the artists' instructions. Through such way of producing artwork, artists have become not the producers as usual but the production instruction provider, and by the citizens' participation, 'labor' parts of artwork production was meant to be thought out thoroughly through this exhibition opportunity. The participating artists and the citizens will be paid the minimum wage of ￦5,210KRW per hour. The participant artists will be paid for 2-hour-wage, the participant citizens will be paid for the number of hours they worked on the artwork. This exhibition of artwork creation of variety with the given limited materials and the realization of the artwork ideas which labored for production by the third parties is to provide an opportunity of examining the contemporary art from 'materials' and 'labor' view points respectively, as a new way of understanding the contemporary art.
