다양성에 바쳐진 예술, 자유로운 해체주의

오늘날 미술의 특징은 그 다양성에 있다. 이번 제6회 대구청년미술프로젝트YAP'14에 초대된 42명의 국내외 작가들을 보더라도 그들 각각의 미술은 각자의 표현 방식과 주제, 그리고 사용하는 매체에 있어서 뚜렷이 구별된다. 이러한 다양화는 얼마 전까지만 해도 경향이 비슷한 예술가들이 한 유파를 이루거나, 동일한 이념과 이상, 혹은 미학적 주장을 펼치던 것과는 사뭇 대조적이다.

우리 현대사회는 요동치고, 변화는 일상화되어서 인간은 언제나 유동적인 존재가 되었다. 그와 함께 우리의 예술적 환경도 급격한 변화를 맞이한다. 결과적으로 오늘날의 예술은 극히 파열적이고 파편화된 양상을 띤다. 뚜렷한 기준도 없고, 확실한 미래도 보장되지 않는 상태에서 각 개인은 극도의 아노미 현상을 겪고, 불안과 초조, 우울증이라는 현대병에 노출된다. 이러한 상태에서 자신만의 생활 속에 갇히는 자폐 현상을 보이거나, 마약, 광적 신앙, 알코올 등에 쉽게 노출될 수도 있고, 과격할 정도로 전통과 과거에 집착하기도 한다. 혹은 자신을 무가치하고 왜소하게 생각하는 개인들은 영웅주의나 우상화에 빠져든다. 이번 전시에 초대된 대부분의 작가들은 현대 사회의 이러한 병적 현상을 깊이 자각하면서, 한편으로는 그에 대한 분석과 비판, 그리고 다른 한편으로는 그에 대한 치유의 한 방편으로 예술을 사용하고자 한다.

잃어버린 감각과 잊혀 진 인류의 문화를 재생하고자 하는 시도, 일상에 대한 개인적 서사, 지구환경 문제, 하이테크놀로지 시대의 새로운 몽환주의와 시뮬라크럼 한 세상에 유머와 조롱을 던지는 등 신선한 담론을 형성해 나아간다. 회화, 설치, 입체, 사진, 필름, 연극 등에 이르기 까지 다양한 매체들을 때로는 서로 융합시키며 표현된 작품들은 관람객의 참여로 아직은 미완인 예술의 완성을 이뤄낸다. ■ 이수균

□ 특별전1 『서스펜스Suspense』, 『바다로 사라진 Gone out to the sea』 사지과 영상 작품은 모스크바와 파리를 오가며 활동하는 젊은 작가 팀 파르치코브 Tim PARCHIKOV의 미디어에 의해 과부화 걸린 정보화 시대, 삶의 가속화를 부추기는 환경에 살고 있는 현대인들의 일상을 그리는 사진, 영상 작품. □ 특별전 2 클라이드 샤보Clyde CHABOT의 『(연극)박물관 대구』 『A museum(theatre)Daegu』는 극작가 하이너 뮬러의 『햄릿기계Hamlet Machine』 희곡작품을 출처로 관람객들에게 정치적, 시적 자화상이라는 극적 공간의 주인공 역할을 제안하는 연극, 설치, 사진의 종합예술작품.

Art today is marked by diversity. In terms of expressive method, theme, and medium, the art of the 42 domestic and foreign artists invited to the YAP '14 (The 6th Young Artists Project) is clearly different and individual. This tendency seems completely contrary to trends of the past when artists joined movements and formed schools based on identical ideologies, ideals, or aesthetic assertions. ● They have no specific criteria and solid future and are exposed to modern diseases such as anxiety, nervousness, and depression. Contemporary people are often trapped in a state of autism. They are easily exposed to drugs, fanaticism, and alcohol, as well as being excessively attached to past traditions. Individuals who consider themselves insignificant and worthless succumb to heroism or idolization. Most artists in this exhibition deeply realize the morbid phenomena taking place in contemporary society and attempt to analyze and criticize them, trading on art as a means to heal these morbid aspects. ● Participating artists in this exhibition are emerging artists who have achieved some degree of maturity in their work. These artists have done their utmost to explore new forms of expression to represent their emotions and reveal new worlds. The exhibition will be an opportunity to review diverse, fresh socio-cultural discourse and seriously consider the nature of visual art: individual narratives on the everyday; critical views to social-political environments; an attempt to restore lost senses and forgotten culture; concerns about environmental issues and recycling; and satirical looks at new fantasies and simulacra in the era of high technology. ■ LEE Soukyoun
