폭력의 잔재된 기억; 사회 속에 내재된 폭력 ● 내 작업은 폭력의 잔재기억으로부터 시작된다. 나는 유년시절의 폭력으로부터 구속되어진 기억을 수반한 채 성장 시기를 지내왔다. 이 같은 기억은 오랜 시간이 지났음에도 불구하고 기억충격인 일종의 트라우마로 변질되어 감정의 억압과 불안정한 사고로 고착되었다. 나의 극복되지 못한 억압된 감정은 표출되지 못한 채 높은 압력을 유지시킨다. 그로인해 언제 터질지 모를 도발을 머금게 되고, 이런 일련의 과정 속에서 상상의 폭력성을 구현한다. 나로부터 출발한 작업은 사회적 이데올로기와 교차되어 '안전'과 '불안'이란 양면적 키워드를 가지게 되었다. ● 위와 같은 내용을 토대로 나는 본래의 풍경(환경)을 조작하거나 재구성하여 가공된 풍경을 만들며, 이를 통해 '안전에 대한 불확실성' 담아낸다. 그리고 이 이야기의 무대를 내가 서있는 한반도로 설정하였다. 한반도, 분단국가다란 말이 위협적이기 보단 이미 상투적인 의미를 가지게 되었다. 그 만큼 불안과 도발에 내성이 생긴 것이다. 현실로 보면 남북대면 상황으로 전시가 분명하지만, 인식적인 부분에서 냉소적인 관람자의 태도로 관조하고 있다. ● 나는 관람자를 위한 쇼를 진행한다. 쇼의 형태는 퍼포먼스의 형식을 가지며, 이번 작업 『벙커아일랜드』를 통해 한반도를 어떻게 규정지을지 질문을 던져본다. 분명 지질학적 분류로 본다면 대륙의 국가이지만, 세면의 바다와 북으로 가로막혀 오도 가도 못한 채 고립된 '섬이 아닌 섬'으로 간주하였다. 불안이 내재된 섬을 탈출하기 위해서는 무엇보다 배가 필요했다.

섬에서 섬으로 ● 한반도는 지형적으로 대륙국가 이지만, 사회적 이데올로기로 해석하면 고립된 섬나라이다. 그 이유를 들자면 삼면이 바다로 둘러싸였고, 북쪽으로는 군사병력들이 대치한 고립된 지형이기 때문이다. 이와 같은 고립된 환경은 심리적 불안함을 조성하여 그 부작용으로 생긴 피해의식과 불안감은 외부로 표출되길 원한다. 불안이 가득한 「무기창고 한반도」 고립된 섬을 탈출하기 위해 나는 무엇보다 배가 필요하다고 생각했다. 나는 섬을 탈출하기 위해 일상에서 손쉽게 구할 수 있는 재료를 찾았으며, 충분한 부력과 이동이 가능한 가벼운 재료 또한 생명을 유지시켜줄 물이란 물질의 특성을 고려했다. ● 배를 제작 하는 데는 30시간이 소요되었다. 배의 사양은 최대부력 350kg, 수납공간은 전·후방으로 적재가 가능하며, 바람의 영향을 받지 않도록 외부의 막을 최소화 하고 노출된 뼈대도 간결하게 제작했다. 또한 파도에 선체가 뒤집히거나 파손되지 않도록 무게중심을 사방으로 분산시켰다. 그밖에 안전장치는 구명조끼, 구명환, 20연발폭죽(신호탄으로 사용), 로프, 비상식량, 어망, 비상시 교체 가능한 스페어(spare)통(18.9L 물통) 등을 옵션으로 선체에 배치하였다. 이렇게 제작된 『벙커아일랜드』시리즈의 첫 번째 작품 모델명이 BK-203 이다. K-203 이란? 벙커(작품)&보경(제작자)의 영문 앞 글자를 따왔으며, 백넘버 '203'은 탑승인원을 말한다. 203은 최소 2명에서 최대 3명까지 탑승할 수 있는 배의 크기를 뜻한다. ■ 정보경

Memories Residing in Violence; Violence Inherent in Society ● My artworks begin from the vestige memories of violence. My growing-up period involved having memories of being suppressed under the violence. Even though a long time has passed, these memories turned into a trauma and left me with unstable way of thinking and suppressed emotions. My unrecovered suppressed emotions remain under high pressure without being expressed. Therefore containing provocation not knowing when it will explode, meanwhile I manifest violence in imagination. The artworks sprang from me to cross over social ideology to form the ambivalent keyword 'safety', and 'anxiety'. ● Based on the theory above, I manipulate or reorganize the original scenery(environment) to form an artificial scenery hence, bring out 'uncertainty of safety'. In addition, this story's background is set to be the Han Peninsula where I am standing. Han Peninsula, the word divided nation no longer stands for a threat but a stereotypical meaning. This symbolizes tolerance that were developed against anxiety and provocation. In reality, it is clear that North and South Korea are still under the war, but it is seen as a sardonic audience's point of view. ● I conduct the show for the audience. The show has the form of a performance and through this artwork 『Bunker Island』I question how to regulate Han Peninsula. In geological way, Han Peninsula is an extension of the continent but it is covered with three seas and North Korea, not letting anywhere to go. So it became an isolated 'island that is not quite an island'. To escape from the anxiety filled island, I needed a boat the most. From an Island to another Island ● In geological way Han Peninsula is part of a continent, but interpreted as an island according to social ideology. The reason is that it is covered with three seas, and the North is confronted with military, making it isolated. An isolated environment creates psychological anxiety and the victim mentality created as the side-effects needs to be expressed. In order to escape the isolated island that is filled with anxiety; 「weapon warehouse Han Peninsula」, I thought I needed a boat the most. To escape the island, I looked for the materials that I could find easily in daily life, with enough buoyancy and light material for transportation. Also I considered the character of water that to keep life alive. ● It took 30 hours to construct the boat. The boat's functions include maximum buoyancy of 350kg, front and rear storage space, minimized walls in order not to be affected by the wind, and used most simplified frame. Also, not to be turned over by the waves, the center weight is spread. In addition, it contains a life vest, a life ring, a 20 firework(to be used as a flare), ropes, emergency food, a fishing net, a spare bottle(18.9L) to be used in emergency. The first 『Bunker Island』Series model that I constructed as above is my first artwork BK-203. BK-203 means? Combined initials of Bunker(Artwork)&Bokyung(constructor) and number 203 means the Pax. 203 means maximum occupancy of 2-3 people. ■ JUNGBOKYUNG
