우리는 산을 통해서만 산을 넘어서고, 바다를 통해서만 바다보다 심원한 차원으로 나아갈 수 있다. 일상과 일상너머의 진실, 일상의 부조리와 그것을 넘어서는 조리는 서로 분리되어 있지 않다. 그것은 분열된 둘이 아니다. 저 우주의 힘, 존재를 넘어서는 위대성, 초월적 차원은 이 지상의 순간들, 일상의 모든 모퉁이들에서 우리에게 말을 걸어온다. 일상은 매일 아침 동틀 녘부터 일몰까지 우리로 그 위대성에 귀 기울이도록 하는 열린 순간들의 연속이다. ...작가로서 정경미의 자각이 출발하는 지점이 여기가 아닌가 싶다. 일상을 오독(誤讀)함으로써 일상을 넘어서는 길도 잃어버리고 마는 빈곤한 인식의 지평, 바로 그 위에서 (우리 모두의 것인) 가난한 감각을 위한 어떤 감각의 반전을 꾀하는 것, 즉 '일상 이상을 보여주는 일상의 회화'를 시도하기! 정경미의 회화는 하나 이상으로 된 하나며, 무수한 이야기들로 된 이야기다. 그 이미지들은 수많은 장소들에서 포착된 하나의 장소고, 서로 다른 시간대들에서 건너온 하나의 시간대다. 그것은 장소의 함축이 허용한 새로운 공간이자 시간의 응축으로부터 연유하는 새로운 시간이다 이 점을 잊지 말자! 이 세계는 전적으로 일상의 소산이지만, 결코 일상의 차원에 머물지 않는다. 그것은 3차원의 공간 너머까지 연장되고, 이 행성의 일반적인 시점에 구애받지 않는다. 그것은 전혀 새로운 세계를 위해 '열리기 시작하는' 랜드스케이프(landscape)이다. 정경미의 세계는 일상에서는 결코 그렇게 존재하지 않는, 작가의 긴밀한 고유성으로 발견된 포월(包越)적 일상의 공간이다. 이 포월성은 일상 너머를 개입시키면서도, 언제나 일상 자체에 의존해서 그렇게 하는 것으로, 이는 비일상적 초월성과는 근본적으로 다른 것이다. 이는 모던 아트의 화두였던 반(反) 일상성이 결코 아니다. 전술했듯, 일상은 도주해야만 할 저주받은 시공이 아니라, 그 안에서 기적을 경험해야 하는 필연적 장이며 모험을 좋아하는 사람이 승부를 겨루어야 할 전장이기 때문이다. ■ 심상용

Our everyday life is full of amazing things. A glass of water, a ray of sunshine, leaf, caterpillar, flower, laughter, a rain drop...everything is a miracle. The power of the universe, the greatness beyond existence, and transcendental dimensions are perceived through every moment in our lived world. Everyday, from sunrise to sunset, is the accumulation of open moments that make us to listen to its greatness. Mysterious miracles are present in the everyday world where we are embedded. The possibility of being emancipated exists at the center of our life. The reason why we are not able to see the greatness of the everyday life is our dull sense. What make everyday life banal are our distorted perceptions. The art of Jung Kyung-Mi starts with this awareness. Through her art work, Jung Kyung-Mi attempts to show the greatness of everyday life. Her art is drawn from a series of complexity. Her work represents an image consisting of numerous images and tells a story consisting of numerous stories. In her work, she puts together a number of images captured different places at different times into an image in a certain space at a certain time. Through this synthesis, her work introduces us to a new world which never exists but was discovered by her close and unique look. This new everyday world involves the world beyond every life but it is rooted in the everyday life. The new world is not the cursed place from which we want to run away, but the place in which we can experience miracles and adventures. Through experiencing this new everyday world, we can truly understand the meaning of our everyday life. ■ SHIMSANGYONG
