BETWEEN WAVES

APMAP의 두 번째 기획전『BETWEEN WAVES』는 제주도 서광다원, 오설록 일대를 배경으로 펼쳐진다. 서광다원은 국내 최대 규모의 차(茶) 생산지로, 돌밭을 흙밭으로 일구는 수십년간의 노력 끝에 황무지에서 녹색의 땅으로 변화해 왔다. 100만 그루의 녹차나무는 삼나무 방풍림, 주변의 아열대식물과 한 데 어울려 이국적 분위기를 자아낸다. 이번 전시는 제주의 푸른 바다와 흰 파도, 장관을 이루는 녹차나무 숲의 초록 물결, 그 안에서 자연을 만끽하는 휴가철 관광객 인파(人波), 현대미술의 조류 등 다양한 현장의 이미지를 포괄한다. 오랜 시간을 거쳐 녹차나무 숲으로 재탄생한 서광다원은 BETWEEN WAVES를 계기로 '자연과 예술이 자라는 숲'으로 새롭게 정의된다. 현대 미술가와 건축가 15팀은 서광다원의 자연과 생태를 건축, 조각, 설치, 디자인, 미디어 등 다양한 시각과 장르로 형상화하여 기존의 공간을 생동감 넘치는 전시 현장으로 바꾼다. 전시기간 동안 방문객은 서광다원 일대에서 제주의 자연을 온전히 느끼며 자연, 예술과 한 데 어우러지는 새로운 감각적 경험을 하게 된다. 제주 서광다원에서 두 번째를 맞이한 APMAP(에이피 맵, amorepacific museum of art project)은 전국의 작업현장을 순회하며 야외에서 펼치는 아모레퍼시픽미술관의 현대미술 프로젝트이다. APMAP은 일상공간을 예술의 장(場)으로 변화시켜 아모레퍼시픽미술관이 지향하는 미의 가치, 작가, 관람객이 서로 교감하고 소통하는 광장을 만들어 나간다. 성장 가능성이 주목되는 젊은 작가들의 창작과 관람객의 미적 체험은 물론, 동시대 미술의 새로운 경향을 제시하여 현대미술 발전에 기여하고자 한다. ■ 아모레퍼시픽미술관

The second show of APMAP, BETWEEN WAVES is presented at Seogwang tea garden, OSULLOC located on Jeju Island. After decades of efforts, the abandoned wasteland was reborn into a land of green. And together with the cedar windbreak and subtropical plants in its surroundings, the garden of a million green tea trees evokes an exotic atmosphere. The exhibition embraces varied layers of "waves" around Jeju, including the waves by the sea and the green tea garden as well as the relentless waves of tourists and the ever-changing contemporary art. BETWEEN WAVES expands the definition of the place into a field of artistic forest where art and nature can interact with each other. The exhibition showcases site-specific works by the fifteen teams who explore diverse art forms to give shape to their inspirations from the natural settings of Seogwang tea garden. The visitors are provided with an opportunity to have sensory experiences as they stroll around this beautiful natural and artistic space. APMAP (amorepacific museum of art project) is an art project which is held in ordinary workplaces throughout Korea. Such attempts of APMAP facilitate the manifestation of the value of beauty that Amorepacific Museum of Art believes and advocates and the formation of a plaza where artists and viewers can communicate and establish close rapport with each other. APMAP seeks to support new artists whose artistic possibilities are worthy and contributes to the growth of contemporary art by channeling the newly emerging tendencies of the scene of contemporary art. ■ AMOREPACIFIC MUSEUM
