AIR & AIR-여행을 생각하다

『AIR & AIR-여행을 생각하다 』展은 클레이아크김해미술관과 한국공항공사 부산지역본부가 양 기관의 상호 발전을 위해 MOU를 체결하고 공동으로 개최하는 첫 번째 전시이다. 이번 전시에는 클레이아크김해미술관 세라믹창작센터 5기 입주작가 여덟 명이 참여하여 여행을 주제로 다양한 작품을 선보인다. ● 전시에는 두 개의 AIR가 있다. 하나는 입주작가를 뜻하는 Artist In Residency의 앞 자를 조합하여 만든 air이고, 다른 하나는 개최장소인 공항 Airport의 앞 단어 air이다. 공기를 뜻하는 air는 가볍고 투명하며 자유롭다. 이번 전시는 이러한 공기의 성질을 반영하듯 시간과 장소에 구애 받지 않고 누구에게나 개방된 장소인 공항의 곳곳에 예술작품을 자유롭게 배치하였다. 예술작품은 공기와 같이 일상으로 자연스레 유입되어 관객을 만나고 교감하며 새로운 에너지를 생성한다. 따뜻한 공기와 차가운 공기가 만나면 비가 내리듯 두 개의 air가 만나는 이번 전시는 세계인의 첫 관문인 공항에 예술적 영감과 활기찬 분위기를 형성할 것이다.

전시는 시공간의 이동이 끊임없이 이루어지는 공항의 장소적 특성에 주목하여 여행을 주제로 기획되었다. '여행'이라는 단어 속에는 다른 도시나 나라로의 이동을 뜻하는 사전적 의미 뿐 아니라 사유의 여행, 인생의 여정과 같이 간접적이고 추상적인 의미를 모두 내포하고 있다. 작품 대부분은 이번 전시를 위해 새롭게 탄생한 신작이다. 지난 몇 개월간 작가들은 공항을 오가며 공간을 탐색하고 개념을 재정립하며 작품창작에 몰두하였다. 그 결과 여행을 연상시키는 조각, 개인의 가치관이나 경험을 담은 설치, 작업과정에 빗대어 주제를 표현한 도자작업 등 각자의 예술적 언어로 풀어낸 다채로운 작품들이 공항 곳곳에 선보이게 되었다. ● 기쁨, 설렘, 슬픔, 아쉬움, 고단함 등 다양한 감정이 교차하는 공항의 방문객에게 이번 전시가 잠시 동안의 여유와 휴식을 선사하길 바란다. 그리고 작품 감상을 통해 다양한 여행의 의미를 발견하고 자신의 여행을 생각해보는 시간이 되길 기대한다. ■ 클레이아크김해미술관

The exhibition "AIR & AIR–Thinking of travel" is the first exhibition to be co-hosted by Clayarch Gimhae Museum and the Korea Airports Corporation Busan International Airport Office since the two organizations signed an MOU for their mutual development. In this exhibition of the fifth round of artists-in-residence at Clayarch Gimhae Museum's Ceramic Creative Center, eight visual artists present diverse works on the theme of travel. ● In this exhibition, 'AIR' has a twofold meaning. The first is the acronym for Artists-In-Residency, and the other comes from the first syllable of airport, the venue for this exhibition. Air is light, transparent, and free, with no restrictions of time and space--and as if reflecting these properties of air, the artworks are placed freely throughout the airport, a public space open to everyone. Just like air, the artworks organically filter into our daily life, confronting and interacting with the viewer, generating new energy. Just as the meeting of warm and cold air brings rainfall, the meeting of the two AIRs in this exhibition will bring artistic inspiration and a lively atmosphere to the airport, the primary gateway of our cosmopolitan world. ● Emphasizing the situational features of an airport, a site associated with constant movement through time and space, this exhibition centers on the theme of travel. Here, the word 'travel' not only signifies the dictionary definition of going from one city or country to another, but also less literal, abstract connotations, such as traveling through thought or journeying through life. Most of the works are new pieces, only just brought forth for this exhibition. Over the past months, the artists visited the airport and explored the space, redefining the concept and then devoting themselves to creating new pieces. The resulting cornucopia of artworks, displayed throughout the airport, unfold in the distinctive artistic languages of each individual artist. They include sculptural pieces evoking the notion of travel, installations embodying personal values or experiences, and ceramic pieces that depict the theme by evincing the work process. ● For visitors to the airport--the crossroads for a wide range of emotions like joy, excitement, sadness, regret, and fatigue--we hope that this exhibition will offer ease and respite, if only for a moment.
