보이다, 보이지 않다

나의 작업은 삶의 아름다움에 관한 탐구이다. 내가 찾은 아름다움이란 삶의 불완전한 상태에서 보여지는 개체들의 생명력과 모순 그리고 그러한 것들 사이에서 무한히 확장하는 관계성이다. 나약하지만 동시에 강한 것, 머물러 있는 것과 나아가는 것, 투명한 것과 불투명한 것, 보여지는 것과 보여지지 않는 것, 우리가 서 있는 경계에 있는 관해 이야기 한다. 이러한 모순과 불확실성으로 인해 삶은 혼란스럽고도 불안하지만 또한 무한히 긍정적이며 신비롭다. 드로잉의 선을 긋는 행위는 나에게 경계에 외발로 서 있는 듯한 아슬아슬한 설레임을 준다. 조금만 힘을 더 줘도, 덜 줘도, 잠시 딴 생각을 해도 방향을 잃고 이어져야 할 곳에 그어지지 못하고, 엇나가고 만다. 너무 정성을 들여도, 들이지 않아도 그 불안정함과 부주의함이 고스란히 다 작업표면에 드러난다. 그래서 선 긋는 드로잉 작업을 할때마다 그 위태로움에 설레인다. 우리가 한걸음 한걸음 내딛어 길을 걸어가는 것처럼, 매일 하루 하루를 살아가는 것처럼 그렇게 순간을 기록한다. ■ 반주영

My work is a search of the beauty upon our lives. The beauty I have found from this search is the life force and the contradiction of each individual showed in their incomplete lives, and the relationship that expands infinitely among them. ● Something weak but powerful simultaneously. Something dwelling and stepping forward. Something transparent and opaque. Something visible and invisible. Talking about a border line where we are standing on. Although our lives can be confusing and insecure due to these contradictions and insecurities, they can still also be infinitively positive and mystic. ● A behavior of drawing a line gives me a thrill of joy, as if I was standing upon one leg on the border line. The line can go astray as you are drawing it, if you are putting too much or too less strength or if you are thinking about something else while you are working on it. A sense of insecurity and carelessness would clearly revealed on the surface of your work, if you are working too elaborately or not elaborately. On that account, I get excited with the risk whenever I draw lines. I record moment by moment, as if we were walking along the road step by step, as if we were living our lives day by day. ■ BANJUYOUNG
