본 전시는 서울시립미술관에서 운영하는 난지미술창작스튜디오 8기 입주 작가의 기획전시 『2014 NANJI ART SHOW』로서 첫 번째 전시입니다. 전시는 현재 입주활동을 하는 작가들에 의해 기획되었으며, 입주기간이 끝나는 12월 말까지 7회에 걸쳐 지속해서 진행됩니다. ■ 난지미술창작스튜디오

무언가를 바라본다. 그 행위는 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 대상이 눈치채지 못할 정도의 부동의 자세로, 또는 익숙하지 않은 대상의 모습을 찾아가려는 다양한 시선의 움직임으로, 그리고 바라보고자 하는 대상과 같은 시선을 공유하기 위해 다가서는 움직임을 통해 행해진다. 이러한 일련의 과정에서 작가는 고정된 자세를 취하기도 하고 이리저리 돌아다니며, 때론 대상의 움직임을 직접 모방하기도 한다. '바라봄'을 창작의 근간으로 삼는 작가들은 자신만의 감성을 행위 너머의 지평으로 확장시켜나간다. 그리고 이러한 창작 행위 속에 작가의 최초의 움직임은 시작되며, 작품 안으로 고스란히 녹아 든다. ■ 박승원

Gazing at something! This performance is executed in a static posture over such a prolonged period of time that the observer is unlikely to notice any change of movement at all, or is enacted with movements of various stares as if searching for an unfamiliar subject, and then takes the movements to share the same stare with the subject that is to be looked on. Through such series, the artist sometimes looks fixedly at something while adopting static postures, or wanders around here and there, or sometimes imitates the movements of the subject. Artists who base their creations on the concept of 'gazing' gradually expand their own emotions to a horizon that goes beyond actions. Then, in the midst of such creative performances, the artists' first movement starts and melts into art in its entirety. ■ Park Seongwon
