시간을 잃어버린 풍경 Lost in Time

장재민 작가의 첫 개인전,『시간을 잃어버린 풍경』은 '어떤 기억'에 관한 독백이다. 상실된 기억을 환기시키고 기억을 머물게 하는 독특한 장소를 발견하면서 이야기는 시작된다. 의미와 기억, 역사의 기록으로서의 장소가 작가의 섬세한 감성과 조우하는 순간, 그 풍경은 차이와 특별함을 되찾고, 낯선 풍경으로 재구성된다. 시각의 대상으로서의 풍경은 지각의 단서가 되어, 보이지 않는 '그 무엇'을 찾아 나간다. 무엇인가를 잊지 못한다는 것은 그 대상을 통해 나의 감성을 음미하는 과정이며, 그 잔영을 표현하고 싶은 회화적 행위는 일종의 자신과의 동일시다. 작가가 풍경 속으로 들어감으로써 은폐된 곳은 오히려 그 존재를 드러내고 그 부재의 장소에 새로운 영역과 의미를 형성한다. 그것은 작가가 '잃어버린 시간'이자 '기억하는 시간'으로 자신의 존재 의미를 찾아 나가는 여정이기도 하다. ■ 황신원

Jaemin Jang's first solo exhibition,『Lost in Time』is a monologue about 'memory'. The story starts when a unique place is found that arouses a forgotten memory which begins to linger. At the very moment when the place, as a record of meaning, memory, and history, encounters the artist's delicate emotions, the scenery regains its uniqueness, and it is reconstructed as new scenery. The scenery, as the visual object, becomes a clue of perception, and leads the artist on a journey in search of "something" invisible. Not being able to forget, is a process of realizing feelings through an object, and the act of painting the lingering image has, in a way, identified the artist himself. As the artist enters the scenery, the secluded place reveals its existence, and in the blank space, new spheres and their meanings are formed. That is where the artist is "lost in time", and this is part of the journey of finding the meaning of his own existence as well. ■ HWANGSHINWON
