REAL LANDSCAPE

우리는 일어나서 잠들기 전까지 무수한 이미지를 소비하며 살아가지만 대부분의 이미지는 기억되기도 전에 우리 뇌리에 깊은 인상을 남기지 못하고 사라져 간다. 우리 중에 현실을 직시하는 것을 두려워하지 않을 이들이 얼마나 될까? 우리는 사실을 외면하거나 왜곡한다. 그리고 대부분의 풍경들은 아무런 생각 없이 스쳐 지나가 버린다. 우리는 이 이미지 속에서 무엇에 집중해야 하는지 누구에게도 강요 할 수 없다. 이런 상황에서 우리 눈에 아른거리는 이미지가 있다면 그 이미지는 우리의 선택에 의해 기억된 이미지일 것이다. 이러한 이미지는 어떤 관점에서 바라보느냐에 따라 전혀 다르게 해석된다. 어떤 사람에게는 절대 잊을 수 없는 경이로운 장면 일 수도, 어떤 사람에게는 옛 향수를 불러일으키는 먹먹한 풍경 일 수도 있다. 그렇다면, 무엇이 실제 풍경일까? 우리는 너무 겉으로 드러나는 가시적인 형상에만 집중하고 있는 건 아닐까? 가시적인 이미지와 그 이미지 속에 가려진 의미 사이의 거리, 이 거리는 "무엇을 어떻게 볼 것인가?"에 의해서 좁혀질 수도 벌어질 수도 있겠다. 아마도 지금 여기서 우리가 할 수 있는 말이란 "당신은 어떤 풍경을 보고 있나요?"라는 질문이지 않을까 싶다. ■ 박지혜

We live our lives consuming countless images from morning to night while most of the images vanish away without leaving any impressions to us before they are remembered. How many of us are not afraid of facing the reality? We avoid and distort the facts. And most of the landscapes pass us by without letting us think about them. We cannot force anyone what to focus on among these images. If there are any images that remain in our memory in this circumstance, they must be the ones that are remembered by our own choice. Such images are interpreted very differently by how we look at them. To someone, these images can be remembered as marvelous sights while to someone else, the images can evoke such painful scenes that could remind him or her of nostalgic memories. Then, what is a real landscape? Aren't we only focusing on what is visible that is exposed to our eyes? The distance between visible images and meanings that are veiled behind them might all be able to get either widened or narrowed down by this question,"how are we going to see?" What we can say at this point may probably be like this; "What landscape are you looking at?" ■ PARKJIHYE
