Floating island(유랑섬)

『Floating island』전은 유랑하는 섬으로 비유한 '배'가 주체가 되어 집, 사람, 공간, 공동체에 관한 나의 실제 경험담으로 전개되어진다. '배'라는 것은 그 자체만으로는 유동적이고 자율적이지만 동시에 고립적이고 제한적인 이중성을 가지고 있다. 이번 전시에서 나타나는 '배'는 계속적으로 유랑하지만 그 안에서는 고립이 될 수밖에 없었던 나의 유학생활을 대변하는 장치로 완전히 다른 언어와 가치관을 가진 사회에서 마주했던 충돌의 잔상들을 꺼내어 공동체 내의 '나'라는 존재, '공동체'라는 개념이 개인에게 끼치는 비가시적인 폭력과 영향 그리고 개인과 공동체의 불가분리의 필수적인 관계구도에 대한 여러 각도에서의 관점들을 제시한다. 그럼으로써 인간이라는 불안정한 개체의 존재가 공동체라는 특유의 폐쇄성을 갖추고 있는 틀 안에서 어떠한 공존방식을 모색하며 지탱하고 존속시켜 나가고 있는지 관객들 각각의 경험에 비추어 생각의 확장을 유도하고자 한다. ■ 오주영

The artist develops the themes of home, people, space and community through "a ship" likened as 『Floating island』 based on her personal experience. " A ship" in itself is viewed as mobile and free, yet at the same time, isolated an limited, giving it duality. "A ship" shown through this exhibition is a device which represents the period of the artist's studying overseas, when she continued to wander, but had been isolated in a society of different language and values. From such crashes that she faced, she presents the perspective from various angles on a being of " I within a community, nonvisible abuse and influence of community on a being, and inseparable relationship structure of beings and communities. Thus, the artist intends the viewers to e×tend their point of view, based on their personal experiences, on how a human being, unstable as it is , finds, sustains, and continues the ways to coexist in the boundaries of community with distinct isolation. ■ Oh Jooyoung
