라운드-업 round-up

서울시립미술관은 2013년 12월 13일부터 2014년 1월 12일까지 2013 Emerging Artists: 신진작가 전시지원 프로그램 보고展『라운드-업』을 개최한다. ● 'Emerging Artists: 신진작가 전시지원 프로그램'은 2008년부터 'SeMA Young Artists'라는 이름 아래 젊고 역량 있는 작가들에게 개인전을 개최 할 수 있는 지원금과 비평가 매칭 등을 지원하는 서울시립미술관 대표 연간사업의 새로운 이름이다. 새로운 명칭과 함께 2013년부터는 지원 분야를 시각예술에서 다원예술까지 확장하며 동시대미술의 동향을 반영하고자 하였다. 이는, 더욱 실험적이고 다양한 지층의 재능 있는 작가를 지원하고자 하는 의지를 반영한다. 뿐만 아니라, 기존에 개인전 지원에 그쳤던 것을 올 해에는 2013년 선정 작가 28명을 미술관으로 초대하여 그 결과를 보고하는 기회를 마련하였다.

이번 전시의 제목인『라운드-업(round-up)』은 가장 중요한 기사들의 내용을 간추려 요약한 방송뉴스라는 의미로, 미술관의 지원을 받아 2013년 한 해 동안 서울시내 여러 전시공간에서 개인전을 개최한 28명의 신진작가들의 대표작을 한자리에 소개한다는 의미를 지닌다. 한 가지 주제로 정의 될 수 없는 선정 작가 28명의 다양한 작품들을 전시장 안에 의도적으로 과잉되거나 충돌하게끔 구성하여 넘치는 에너지와 순수한 욕망들을 표현하고자 했다.

다소 난해하고 멀게 느껴지는 동시대 미술을 작가들과의 직접적인 소통을 통해 친근하게 접근하고자 마련된 '작가 릴레이 이벤트'는 전시 기간 동안 다양한 형식의 볼거리를 선사할 것이다. 또한, 선정 작가 28명의 개인전 관련 자료와 함께 '신진작가 전시지원 프로그램'을 소개하는 공간을 마련하여 6년간의 신진작가 전시지원 프로그램의 진행상황 및 그 역할과 영향을 돌아보는 기회로 삼고자 한다. ● 다양한 이벤트와 에너지 넘치는 신진작가들의 다채로운 작품 양상을 펼쳐 보일 이번 전시는 동시대 미술 현장의 폭넓은 스펙트럼을 보여 줄 수 있는 자리가 될 것으로 기대한다. ■ 서울시립미술관

Seoul Museum of Art('SeMA') holds 2013 Emerging Artists Program round-up from 13th December 2013 to 12th January 2014. ● Since 2008, SeMA has been supporting young and talented artists to have a solo exhibition and meet critics and curators. 'Emerging Artists Program' is a new name for the representative yearly program of SeMA that was formerly called 'SeMA Young Artists'. Along with the new name in 2013, the program is extended its scale from visual arts to interdisciplinary arts so that trends of contemporary art, which encompasses the various fields and genres, are reflected. This enlargement also shows the determination to support talented artists from more experimental and diverse fields. This year, the artists of the 2013 Emerging Artists Program have been specially invited to SeMA and show the result of this year's progress through the exhibition. ● The title of the exhibition "round-up" refers to a summary of important news. This exhibition is set to introduce the artists of the 2013 Emerging Artists Program, who held a solo exhibition in various art spaces around Seoul throughout the year supported by SeMA, as the 28 artists are "round-up" of the 2013 Emerging Artists Program. By excessively displaying major works of these 28 artists on purpose whose oeuvre cannot be defined in one category, this exhibition aims to express energy and pure desire of the passionate artists. ● The 'Artist Relay Event' that offers direct communication with the artists for familiarizing audiences with their works, often considered as complex and somewhat cryptic, will provide diverse forms of visual pleasure. There will also be a space to introduce not only the artists of 2013 Emerging Artists Program but also the 'Emerging Artists Program' itself in order to look back at the 6 year-old program and its role and influence. ● This exhibition, with varied art works of emerging and passionate artists, is expected to be a great opportunity to see the wide spectrum of the contemporary Korean art scene. ■ SEOUL MUSEUM OF ART
