상대성 도시 相對性都市

사진, 설치, 영상, 사운드 등의 첨단의 매체를 사용하는 한국과 홍콩의 작가 12명이 시공간이 교차하는 도시의 공간을 재조명한다. 근대화, 국제화, 도시생활, 부유함, 빈곤감, 개발, 자본주의 등의 키워드로 서울과 홍콩과 같은 대도시를 사회문화적으로, 심리적으로 그리고 건축적인 접근을 시도한다. 오늘날 숫자만이 가치를 지니고 있는 듯한 현시점에서 작가들은 시공간이 교차하는 도시 안에서 생성되는 다양한 이슈들을 시각화하고 있다. ● 두 명의 여성 기획자인 한금현과 왕워빅이 도시에 대한 접근을 일상적이면서도 철학적으로 시도한다. 자본에 따른 경제적 메카니즘에서 도시인의 생활과 사고가 어떤 영향을 받는지 사진을 중심으로 하는 시각매체를 통해 점검해본다. 1950년부터 서울의 모습을 담은 김한용을 포함하여 6명의 한국의 작가들은 장기적으로 도시에 대한 시각적 연구를 해왔으며 이번 전시를 위해 신작을 선보인다. 언아더마운틴맨(anothermountainman)을 비롯한 6명의 홍콩작가들도 홍콩의 중국 반환의 시기에 겪었던 사회문화적 현상과 경제적인 압박감을 사진과 영상으로 보여준다. ● 전시 제목인『상대성 도시相對性都市 Relativity in City』는 한국어, 중국어, 영어 등 세 언어로 구성되어 있다. 여기서 영어는 한국과 홍콩의 양국을 잇는 설명적인 언어로 들어가게 된다. "상대성"이라는 단어는 도시의 공간은 역사와 시간이 교차되며 그 흔적을 고스란히 담고 있으나 그것을 바라보는 주체에 따라 다르게 인식된다는 점에서 제목으로 쓰이게 되었다. ■

Twelve artists from South Korea and Hong Kong, who use the state-of-the art media such as photograph, installations, films, and sound shed light on the space of city where time and space cross each other. Twelve artists who dwell in South Korea and Hong Kong seek to approach metropolis such as Seoul and Hong Kong through sociocultural, psychological, and architectural perspectives, using keywords such as modernization, globalization, metro life, wealth, poverty, development, and capitalism. ● The two female curators, Keum Hyun HAN and WONG Wo Bik, search to for a way to approach "city" through ordinary life and philosophy. How the economic mechanism dependent of capitalism influences the lifestyle and thoughts of city population is seen through visual media centered on photography. Six Korean artists including Hanyong KIM, who photographed the sceneries of Seoul since 1950s, have been researching on the visual of the city regularly, and they present new works for this exhibition "Relativity in City." Six Hong Kong artists including anothermountainman present sociocultural phenomenon and economic pressure suffered during the reversion of Hong Kong to China via photographs and motion pictures. ● The title of the exhibition,『상대성 도시相對性都市 Relativity in City』is comprised of three languages: Korean, Chinese, and English. English is used as the "bridging language" in order to explain both South Korea and Hong Kong. The word "relativity" was chosen as the title because even though the space of the city encompasses the crossing of history and time, it can be recognized in various ways depending on the individual. ■
