인사만 하던 가게가 있었습니다. 언제나 이 가게는, 장사는 잘 되지 않고 인사만 하는 곳에 있었습니다. 나는 언제부터인가 이 길고 지루한 가게에서 즐거움을 찾는 방법을 발견했습니다. 그것은 수많은 사람들과의 만남 속에서 하루의 해답을 찾는 일이기도 했고 이틀에 어리석음을 발견하는 일이기도 했습니다. 모든 사람들의 모습에는 의미가 있습니다. 나는 이런 것들을 읽어내고 생각하는 것이 즐거웠습니다. 이러한 즐거움은 무거워진 개인사에 습관처럼 슬그머니 올라탔습니다. 즐거움과 습관의 경계가 모호해지고 수없이 서로를 올라탔습니다. 즐거워지는 방법이 습관이 되고 습관이 즐거워졌을 때부터 이것이 나의 일이 될 수 있겠다고 생각했습니다.

늘 같은 곳에서 얼룩은 말씀하셨다 ● 깊은 산속에 스승과 제자가 살았다. 제자는 청소만 시키는 스승이 불만이었다. 9년이 넘도록 아무것도 가르쳐주지 않고 얼룩진 유리를 닦도록 시키는 것이었다. 그러던 어느 날 아침 스승은 죽어버렸다. 제자는 허탈한 마음으로 집으로 돌아가야 했다. 산을 내려오면서 그는 무심코 나무를 보았으나 그것의 뿌리를 먼저 보았다. 돌맹이를 보았으나 그것들의 무늬를 보았으며 벌레를 보지 않고 그것의 움직임을 보았다. 마을에 도착했을 때 그는 사람들을 보지 않고 그들의 마음을 볼 수 있었다. 제자는 청소만 시키는 스승이 되었다.

이름도 모르고 인사하던 사람을 만났다 ● 나는 사실 그를 어딘가에서 본 것 같다. 이름은 모르는데 어딘가에서 본 것 같다. 그를 마지막으로 보았던 곳에서 그는 웃었던 것 같고 화를 낸 것도 같다 . 그는 새로운 벽지 뒤에서 웅크려있는 사람이다. 마음이 습해지면 축축함을 출구삼아 나와 마주하고 마지막에 보았던 인상을 남긴다. 우리는 인상을 이름으로 대신하기로 하고 인사를 했다.

3명의 남매는 집을 가면서도 가게를 간다 ● 집으로 가던 길에 자주오던 손님을 만났다. 집으로 가던 길에 동전을 바꾸어주던 은행원을 만났다. 집에 가던길에 손님이 운영하는 야채가게에서 야채를 사고 누가 손님인지 모를 인사을 하고 집으로 간다. 집 현관인지 가게의 현관인지 모를 문을 열고 집에 들어서면 TV를 보던 가족은 "어서 오세요" 라고 했다. 아마도 그는 가게에 있는 것 같다. 아마도 나는 다시 가게로 왔다.

언제나 피곤은 꿈과 함께 ● 그는 오늘도 경비실 초소를 지키고 있다. 동네에서 가장 빨리 출근 할 사람도 잠을 자고 있을 시간이면, 그는 급여를 받았다. 그러면 보기좋게 고기 한 봉지를 사들고 집으로 돌아 간다. 손녀를 번쩍 들어 품에 안으면, 들고 온 고기는 밥이 되고, 찌개가 되었다. 집안에는 어느새 오래된 가족들이 신발장 앞까지 앉아야 할 정도로 많이 와 있었다. 언제 보았는지 모를 손자손녀들의 재롱에 그는 고개를 기분 좋게 끄덕인다. 아슬아슬 끄덕이다가 고개가 푹 떨구어 졌다. 가늘게 눈을 뜨고 초소의 몽롱하고 작은 유리창을 바라본다. 그 후로도 몇 번의 급여를 다시 받았는지 누구도 알 수 가 없었다.

날벌레가 알려준 명상 전문가의 길 ● 그는 앉은 자리에서 가만히 생각을 집중하는 것만으로 산을 오를 수 있는 유능한 명상가로 알려져있다. 어떤 명상가는 심해를 다녀오는 것으로 유명했으며, 어떤 명상가는 우주에 가서 몇 달씩 머물고오는 이도 있었다. 어떻게 그것이 가능한지 과학자들은 이유를 알 수 없었다. 하지만 명상가들의 공통점이있다. 그들은 적어도 한번은 공중에 멈추어진 것처럼 보이는 이 작은 날벌레를 만나 보았다는 것이다.

날벌레가 알려준 균형 전문가의 길 ● 그는 가만히 멈추어 서있다. 순식간에 남편이 되었다가 아들이 되었다. 학생이 되었다가 손님이 되기도 하고 선생님이 되기도 했다. 매시간 자신이 불리어지는 위치로 허겁지겁 쫓아가서 그 자리에 앉아있기가 바빴다. 손님이 되었던 어느 시간, 공중에 떠있는 날벌레가 그에게 무엇인가 속삭였다. 그날 이후 그는 모든 역할이 항상 변해간다는 것을 이해했다. 이제 그는 가만히 멈추어서 균형을 잡으려고 한다. ■ 양정욱

There used to be a shop where I only said hello to guests. The shop was always in a place where things did not sell well and only greets for guests were made. Fatigue always accompanying a dream ● Just like any other days, he is guarding the apartment in his ward office. He received wages at a time when even those that were about to leave home for work most early were sleeping. Then, he bought a bag of meat with joy and came home. As he holds up his granddaughter high, the meat turns into a bowl of rice and broth. The house was so crowded with relatives to the point of having some family members sitting before a shoe cabinet. He keeps happily nodding his head as he looks at the cute motions of his grandchildren whom he could not meet that often. The way of a meditation expert taught by a fly ● He is known as a competent meditator that can climb up a mountain by focusing his thoughts in his sitting position. Some meditators are famous for going down deep into the sea, While other meditators sometimes stayed for months in the universe. Scientists could not tell how come it was possible. But there was a commonality among all the meditators. They all saw once in a while this little insect that seemingly stood still in the air. The way of a balance expert taught by a fly ● He stands still. He turns into a husband and a son all of a sudden. He also became a student, a guest and a teacher. He was busy taking the seat in a hurry each time he was called. At one point in time when he turned into a guest, an insect in the air whispered something to him.
