"사람이 온다는 건 / 실은 어마어마한 일이다 // 한 사람의 일생이 오기 때문이다" (정현종) 지난 몇 년간 정현종의 시「방문객」의 구절들이 내 머릿속을 맴돈 후 작업을 시작 할 수 있었다. 참 많은 사람들과 만나기도 부서지기도 했다. 처음 만난 사람을 보면 '저 사람은 내 이 하나의 우주로 존재한다. 우주는 빛의 존재 인생의 어떤 인연으로, 왜 내 앞에 마주할까?' 하고 생각한다. 사람은 개개인과 부딪치며 만들어지고 그 속에서 우린 존재한다.

사진의 원리 중 가장 근본적이고 최초의 행위는 포토그램이다. 빛(노광)은 사물을 비추어 이미지로 생성되는 것이다. 나에게 지인의 오래전 사진들은 그 인생의 반추를 통해 느껴지는 어마어마한 일을 만나게 한다. 이러한 과거사진 고르기의 행위적 퍼포먼스를 제공 한 뒤 컴퓨터 그래픽을 통해 우주 속 공간에 별처럼 흩어진 대상과 내 인연의 소우주를 만든다, 그리고 리스필름(어둠과 밝음만 존재하는 네거티브 필름)으로 제작 하고 암실에서 기본 노광을 주면 하얀 인화지 위에는 아무것도 보이지 않는다. (사진용어로 '잠상 : 약품처리 전 보이지 않는 이미지') 그 하얀 이미지위에 지인을 다시 떠올리며(인연과 관계에 대한) 2차적 소우주 만들기 작업에 들어간다. ● 나는 이것을 육체적 힘 빼기 '암실고행'이라 한다. 잠상의 우주를 현상약품과 드로잉으로 만들어 가면서 대상과 나는 제2의 관계로 엮인다. 지나온 시간의 인연을 디지털 작업을 통해 만들어내는 미래의 관계이다. 아나로그 작업에서 소우주로 만들어지고 개인들의 이미지는 나의 몸짓으로 묶여 다시 대우주로 만난다. 우주의 배경사진인 개인의 역사는 별과 먼지로 우주위에 떠있는 것이다. 이렇게 한 사람은 반복의 반동과 충격으로 나와 관계를 맺는 것이다.

불교의 기본교리중 하나인 연기법 緣起法 은 존재의 '생성과 소멸의 관계성 關係性 '을 뜻하는 말로 모든 것은 원인과 조건이 있어서 생겨나고 원인과 조건이 없어지면 소멸한다고 전한다. 차유고피유 此有故彼有, 차기고피기 此起故彼起 / 차무고피무 此無故彼無, 차멸고피멸 此滅故彼滅 (이것이 있으므로 저것이 있고, 이것이 생기므로 저것이 생긴다. / 이것이 없으면 저것이 없고, 이것이 사라지면 저것도 사라진다.) 인연으로 만나 관계 속에서 생성과 소멸을 반복하는 것이다. 나에게 그 첫 인연은 가족이요. 아직도 많은 인연의 관계는 우주에 떠있는 무수한 별들이요 부서져 날리는 먼지와도 같지 않을까? 지인의 오랜 사진 속 에서 그의 과거를 만나고 현재 그의 나이만큼의 인생을 갖는다. 그래서 난 천년도 더 갖은 것이다. ● 오늘밤도 저렇게 많은 별들 중에 그별 하나를 쳐다본다. "When a person is coming, / it is actually an amazing event. // It's because a life of a person is coming. " (JEONGHYUNJONG) For past few years after phrases of "Visitor" a poem by Jeong Hyun jong lingered in my head, I was able to start working. I met a lot of people and broken up on the way as well. When I meet a person for the first time I thought, 'That person exist as one of universe. With what fate the universe of existing life of light and why does it stand in front of me?' Humans are created by clashing with each individuals and in that we exist. The initial and fundamental activity among principles of pictures is photogram. ● Light (exposure) shines on objects and forms to images. For me, old pictures of my acquaintances takes me to meet amazing event that felt through rumination of that life. And through such performance of picking out pictures of past and by computer graphic, I make a small universe of my fate with scattered subjects like stars in the space of universe and create with lith film (negative film only with darkness and brightness). When basic exposure is given nothing shows on white photo paper. (Photographic term: latent image: image that doesn't show before chemical treatment) And initiate in 2 phase of making of small world by rethinking (about fate and relation) the acquaintances on that white image. I call this 'darkroom penance' which means drain out physical strength. As I make universe of latent image with photofinishing chemical and drawing, the subject and I are connected in 2nd relation. It is the relation of future that is create fate of the past time through digital work. Images of individuals are made in to small universe in the work of analog and bound by my movements and meet again in the great universe. The history of individuals which is the background picture of universe are floating in the universe as dust and stars. This is how a person initiated the relation with me with repeat of rebound and impact. Yeongibeob which is one of the basic creed of Buddhism which means the 'relation of creation and destruction' of being and all are created for the reason and need and destruct when the reason and need is no longer necessary. ● Chayoogo piyoo 此有故彼有, Chagigo pigi 此起故彼起 / Chamoogo pimoo 此無故彼無, Chagigo pimyeol此滅故彼滅 (For this exist thus that exist, For this occur thus that occur / For this not being thus that not being, For this disappear thus that disappear) ● Meet by fate and repeat creation and destruction in the relation. To me that first fate is a family. Relation of many other remaining fates are countless stars floating in the universe and Aren't they like dust flying around? In the old picture of acquaintance, I meet past of him and have life as many as his present age. That way I have more than thousand years. ● I gaze at that very star among those countless stars tonight. (October 2013) ■ SEOAERI
