2013-2014 청주 미술창작 스튜디오에서는 제7기 입주작가 아티스트 릴레이 전시를 개최한다. 릴레이 전시는 입주작가 주요프로그램으로 기존작업과 함께 작가의 향방을 보여주는 전시이다. 입주기간 동안 제작된 작품들을 중심으로, 스튜디오와 외부에서 진행된 전시 및 개별프로젝트 등으로 이루어진다. 이번 청주미술창작스튜디오에 외국작가 입주 프로그램으로 3개월동안 입주하며 작업한 스즈키 코헤이(일본)의 전시로 7기 입주작가의 두번째 아티스트 릴레이를 시작한다. ■ 청주미술창작스튜디오

나는 우리가 당연하게 여기는 것들에 대해 왜 그렇게 되었는지 궁금하다. 상식, 범용지식 및 일상사란 무엇일까? 매일 지각하지 못하면서 갖게 되는 생각과 목표를 어떻게 새로운 방식으로 접근 할 수 있을까?

그러한 관념들은 우리가 미처 생각하지 않거나 다른 사람들로부터 교묘히 조종당하면서 더욱 명료해졌을까? 만일 그렇다면, 의도는 무엇일까? 우리는 세상을 어떻게 하면 더 신중하고 명확하게 볼 수 있을까?

이러한 문제에 대해, 나는 인간 언어의 문법뿐만 아니라 소리와 색깔, 형태, 냄새 등에서도 생길 수 있는 문법사항을 연구하고 있다. 나는 우리와 가장 가까이 있는 인간의 몸으로 시간과 부패, 쇠약, 결국엔 모든 살아있는 생명체에게 오는 죽음에 이르기까지 어떻게 관련이 있는지를 연구하고 있다. 이러한 주제를 통해 나는 우리의 생각이 무의식적으로 어떻게 영향을 받고, 어떠한 것들에 의해 영향을 받는지 단계적으로 분석하고 나타내려고 한다. ■ 스즈키 코헤이

My interest is understandingwhat makes us take things for granted. What do we mean by common sense, common knowledge and common place ? How can we re-imagine ideas and objects which have been rendered invisible by everyday use? ● Did they become transparent by our own neglect, or hidden through manipulation by others, and if so, what were their intentions ? How can we read the World carefully and clearly? ● Facing these problems, I have been working on themes such as grammar, not only that of human language, but of other possible grammars, those of sound, colour, form, smell and so on.I work with the human body, the nearest thing to us, and how we relate to time, decay and weakness, and finally to death -coming equally to all living things. ● Through these themes, I’d like to explore and express step by step, how our thoughts are affected unconsciously, and by what sorts of things. ■ SUZUKI Kohei
