오월의 산책 'A Walk in May'

'오월의 산책' ● 뜨거운 햇볕과 밍밍한 공기가 가득한 그 길은 정보통신 연구원 담벼락 옆에 있었다. 화면의 색채는 전달하고자 하는 부분의 감정선(感情線) 을 이야기하여야 한다. 개성이 강한 원색들이 모여 있을 때, 서로 인접한 색의 경계에는 팽팽한 긴장감이 감돈다. 단조로운 이미지의 미묘한 서사구조를 보색 관계를 사용하여 설명한다. 색의 상호 관계는 보편적 인간관계와 닮았다.

바닥에 깔린 그림자 속에 '그'가 서 있다. 하늘을 뒤덮고 있던 나무의 녹색은 담벼락을 타고 그림자를 가득 채우더니 '그'는 그림자 속으로 사라졌다. 사람의 기억은 변덕스러워서 그것이 사라지고 난 뒤에는 현실감각이 떨어진 환영만 남는다.

녹색의 나뭇잎에 보색으로 오렌지를 사용한다. 드로잉의 묘사는 일정한 패턴으로 복잡하게 얽힌 라인을 사용한다. 불안한 심리상태의 낙서는 무의식중에 불안한 상태를 그대로 여과없이 드러낸다. 복잡하고 규칙이 없는 수많은 라인과 신경질적인 선의 속도감은 '그'가 어떤 감정인지에 대한 판단 기준이 된다.

화면에서 '그'가 서 있던 자리를 지우면서 남아 있는 흔적들에 대해서 생각한다. 애니메이션 The Simpsons의 오프닝은 늘 심슨가족이 앉아있는 4인용 카우치를 보여주며 시작한다. 그리고 호머심슨이 앉은 카우치에는 엉덩이 모양의 안정적으로 자리 잡은 흔적이 있다. 어떤 에피소드에서는 자신의 흔적이 없는 의자에 앉았다가 불편함을 호소하는 호머를 봤다.

존재하지 않는 것들에 대해서 생각한다. 우리는 의식하지 않은 상태에서 자연스럽게 지나간 역사를 떠올린다. 여기에서 오류가 발생한다. 지나간 모든 대상과 사건은 현존하지 않는 기억된 이미지일 뿐이다. ■ 오석원

'A Walk in May' ● A path of blazing sun and dull air runs alongside the Information & Communication Centre building. ● The colours on the surface of the painting should convey the range of emotions this place may provoke. When highly saturated primary colours are juxtaposed next to one another, one can feel the tension at the borders of the distinct colours. A subtle narrative can be constructed from my use of complementary colours on monotonous images. I use the way colours interact with one another as a metaphor for human relationships. ● 'He' is standing in the shadow that laid strewn on the floor. The leaf-green colour of the trees that covers the sky climbs the wall and fills the shadow completely. 'He' disappears into the shadow. People's memory is capricious. When the memory goes away, there is only a phantasm left without a sense of reality. ● I apply a red-orange colour to the green tree leaves to contrast complementary colours. The drawing is formed by intricate lines that create different patterns. If you are in a nervous state when unconsciously scribbling, the resulting marks can reveal your nervousness undisguised. The chaotic and complex, almost hysterical, lines can be evidence of the anxiety 'the person' has in the moment. ● When I erase the place where 'he' stands on the picture plane, I am thinking about what is left of its "trace." The opening of "The Simpsons" always shows the family sitting on a couch for four. On the couch we see a butt-shaped trace where Homer always sits. In one episode, Homer complains about the discomfort of not having his usual trace on the couch when he set down. ● I think about the things that do not exist. We are naturally aware of past histories subconsciously. Here is where error occurs. All the things and events in the past are just memorised images that do not exist. ■ OHSUKWON
