유난히 더운 여름이다. 뜨거운 태양과 이글이글한 땅의 열기가 무더위가 찾아 왔음을 알린다.

나의 작업은 무성한 잎을 달고 우뚝 선 나무로 구성된다. 열기 가득한 여름날, 나무는 풍성한 잎을 뻗어 잠시 쉬어갈 수 있는 휴식처를 마련한다. 나무 그늘에 앉아 있노라면 뜨거운 태양의 열정, 자연의 생명력, 솔솔 부는 바람의 여유를 느낄 수 있다. 푸르른 나무그늘은 휴식의 시간, 사색의 시간, 충전의 시간을 제공한다. 나는 무더운 여름날에 만나는 나무 그늘의 청량감에 주목하고 나무 그늘의 소중함, 여름 나무의 아름다움, 자연의 섭리에 대해 이야기하고자 한다.

거대한 생태계 안에서 나무를 포함한 자연과 인간이 상호 연결되어 있으며 조화롭게 공존한다는 생태적 사유는 내 작업을 이끌어나가는 가장 큰 원동력이다. 자연을 지배하려는 시각에서 벗어나 자연과 인간이 함께 살아간다는 동반자의 마음으로 숲을 바라볼 때, 나무의 섬세한 손길과 오묘한 아름다움을 느낄 수 있다. 울창한 숲에서 하늘을 바라보면 푸르른 잎사귀와 반짝이는 햇빛이 어우러져 훌륭한 예술작품을 만든다. 향긋한 풀냄새는 기분 좋은 콧노래를 불러일으키며 상쾌한 바람은 더위에 지친 몸과 마음을 회복시킨다. 나의 예술적 영감은 자연에서 시작된다.

종이를 삶고 염색하여 말리는 것은 내가 작업에 입하는 방식인데, 이러한 태도는 나의 지난 삶에서 비롯된다. 추억이 담긴 종이를 선별하여 다듬고 잘라서 손질하는 것은 좋은 재료로 요리를 하고자 하는 엄마의 마음이다. 또한 추억의 음식을 기억해보며 먼 기억 속의 특별한 느낌을 현재로 끌어내고 싶은 갈망이기도 하다.

애정과 정성이 담긴 종이는 캔버스 위에서 생명력을 간직한 나뭇잎을 이룬다. 촉촉한 종이에 자연스럽게 스며든 염색은 복잡하고도 미묘한 색으로 구성된다. 새로 자라난 잎의 푸르름과 새싹의 연약함, 오래된 잎의 진한 세월이 혼재된 모습은 자연과 닮았다. 나뭇잎의 인위적이지 않은 형태와 다양한 색은 서로 다른 생명체가 함께 어우러지는 자연의 섭리를 반영한다. 나와 너, 우리 모두를 포용하는 자연의 나무에서 휴식을 얻고 기쁨을 느낀다. 나뭇잎 사이로 보이는 하늘에서 시원한 바람이 불어온다.

It is the height of summer. The hot sun and the heat of land tell us the arrival of The sweltering heat. ● My works are composed of trees thick with leaves. At a hot summer noon, many leaves provide us with resting place. Under the cool shade of the trees, I feel passion of sun, vitality of nature, peace of wind. Shade of the trees gives rest, contemplation, healing to us. I take notice of cool shade of the trees and tell preciousness of a leafy shade, beautiful of the summer trees, provision of nature. ● Ecological thought that nature and human are interconnected and coexist peacefully in a giant ecosystem is the prime mover of my work. When we escape from the human predominant view and see trees as friends who shared life, We can feel delicate touch of trees and mysterious beauty. Green leaves and glints of sunlight create brilliant works of art. The scent of grass makes humming and a lively breeze keeps me refreshed and ease my mind while the heat. My inspiration of art starts at nature. ● My method of work which I boil and dye papers is proceed from my life. To select memorious paper and create works is the mind of a mother. Also, it is desire to bring past special feeling to the present. ● Papers filled with love form vital leaves on a canvas. Papers which are naturally dyed reveal subtle shades of green. it takes after nature like little bud, green leaves, fallen leaves. Papers formed unartificial shape and dyed various colors reflect provision of nature that every organism live in concordance with one's neighbors. I rest and feel happy under the tree which embraces us all, you and me. A cool breeze is blowing. through the leaves. ● My work is similar to travel in the way that it gives vitality and freshness. I wish you feel coolness of bower and derive comfort from this exhibition on a sweltering day in August. ■ SONILJUNG
