2의 공화국 Republic of The Two

'1'과 '2'는 인류가 이해한 최초의 수 개념이다. 보통 1은 창조적 작업을 이끄는 남성적 형태로 사회집단 속의 자기 자신이자, 삶과 죽음을 마주한 자기만의 고독을 지칭한다. 즉 1의 의미는 홀로 서있는, 살아있는 단 하나의 존재로 현대미술의 역사에서 창조적 개인의 신화를 환기시킨다. 반면 2는 남성과 여성의 분명한 이중성, 인체의 확연한 대칭에 상응한다. 나아가 2는 대립, 상보, 분리, 경쟁, 갈등 혹은 반목의 상징이기도 하다. 그러므로 2는 삶과 죽음, 선과 악, 진실과 거짓 등의 관념에서도 나타난다. 고대와 현대의 구조주의적 언어의 틀과 표기법에는 그런 원초적 구분의 분명한 흔적들이 담겨있다. 즉 1과2 는 음양, 마주함, 상보, 대립을 지나 창조에 이르는 본체이다. 『2의 공화국』은 부모, 친구, 동료, 부부, 라이벌 모두 2의 구조를 근간으로 한 가장 기본적인 사회적 모듈이다. 혼자였다면 상상하기 힘들었을 '함께 만들기/쓰기'를 통해 현대 미술과 사회 속에 흥미로운 무늬와 굴곡을 새겨나가는 협업체들을 조명하며 창작의 화학작용을 지속적으로 유도해 가고자 한다. ■ The Binders(조주리_박경린)

The number '1' and the number '2' are the first number concepts understood by humankind. 1 is generally thought as a masculine form leading creative work, referring to oneself in a social group and one's solitude confronting life and death. In other words, 1 signifies a sole living being standing by oneself, the meaning of which evokes the myth of a creative individual in the history of modern art. On the other hand, 2 corresponds to the distinct duality of male and female and definite symmetry of the human body. Furthermore, 2 symbolizes confrontation, complementation, separation, competition as well as enmity as well; therefore, the 2 happens to appear in concepts such as life and death, good and evil, and truth and falsehood. Structural frame of language and orthography in ancient and modern eras do contain clear traces of the primordial division of the two number concepts. The two numbers one and two together form a body that reaches creation beyond yin-yang (negative and positive), encounter, complementation, and confrontation. The most fundamental social modules of parents, friends, colleagues, couples, and rivals all have the structure of 2 as their bases. 『Republic of the Two』 seeks to produce and continue such chemical activity of creation by spotlighting the collectives engraving interesting patterns and curves in modern art and society through 'co-creating and writing' unimaginable alone. ■ The Binders(조주리_박경린)
