Inside View

이번 전시는『안쪽보기(inside view)』라는 타이틀을 가지고 있다. 안쪽 보기는 말 그대로 안쪽이라는 의미를 가진 보이지 않는 부분의 모습들을 보여주는 전시다. 나는 많은 사람들이 눈에 보이는 시각적인 현상에만 너무 빠져있다는 생각을 한다. 그래서 이번 전시에서는 안쪽이라는 보이지 않는 공간을 이미지로 제시하고, 이 전시를 준비하는 과정의 흔적들까지 전시로 보여준다. 과정은 결과물에 가려진 보이지 않는 부분과 같다. 이 또한 안쪽과 같은 의미를 가질 수 있다.

「A crack is not a crack」은 틈이라는 공간을 캐스팅하여 공간이 가지고 있는 다른 모습을 보여줌과 더불어, 작품제작 과정 중 실수한 흔적들까지 모두 공개를 하는 작품이다. 이 작품은 크랙이라는 틈(공간)울 에폭시를 이용하여 캐스팅 한 것이다. 그리고 그것을 뒤집어 놓은 모양은 마치 절벽과 흡사하다. 사실 크랙과 절벽은 시점의 차이라 생각한다. 지금 우리가 볼 수 있는 절벽들은 과거에 지진과 같은 지각변동으로 만들어진 결과물이다.

「Search」는 눈으로 잘 보이지 않는 크랙에 다른 색깔의 물감을 집어넣어 시각적으로 잘 볼 수 있도록 만든 작업이다.

마지막으로「Fishing」이라는 설치작업은 어둠이라는 가려진 공간을 낚아 채 끌어낸 모양의 작업이다. Fishing은 안에 있는 것을 억지로 다른 공간으로 끌어내는 행위다. 나 또한 굳이 보여지지 않아도 되는 부분을 낚시질과 같은 행위를 통해 보여주고 있다. ■ 김덕영

This exhibition is entitled as『Inside View』. As its literal meaning, it depicts invisible parts of a space that are hidden inside. I often think people are easily captured by phenomena of the surface, only visible to the eye. Through this exhibition, I try to pull out the inside of a space and reveal simultaneously traces of the process left during the preparation of this exhibition. The process is like an invisible part hidden by the final outcome. So, it also has a meaning of 'the inside'. 「A crack is not a crack」is a piece made by casting a crack in epoxy that shows another image of a space. Besides, it reveals all the traces of errors made during producing the piece. After casting the crack, the obtained form is turned inside out creating an image of a cliff. In fact, a crack and a cliff can be regarded together. Both of them are created by geological movements of the land. 「Search」is a piece visualizing a crack, which was hard to notice, by putting paint of a different color inside of it. The last installation piece「Fishing」visualizes the act of snatching and pulling out the dark part of a space. It is like drawing the inside out to another space by force. Personally, I also try to show the invisible part of myself like the act of fishing. ■ GIMDEOKYEOUNG
