칼 오마슨에게 퍼포먼스는 리서치의 도구일 뿐만 아니라 다른 다양한 매체로 전환되는 작업의 시작점이다. 오마슨은 드로잉, 조각, 설치, 환경 예술, 사진, 비디오등의 다양한 매체를 사용하여 작업을 선보이고 있다. 오마슨은 개인의 상상에 대해 비현실적이기마저 한 로맨틱한 열정을 유지함과 동시에 리서치를 바탕으로 하는 예술의 방법론적 규율 사이에서 끊임없이 균형 잡기를 시도하는 작업을 해오고 있다. 아마도 '직관의 논리학자'인 오마슨은 자신의 작업방식을 이렇게 이야기 한다.

오마슨은 독창성이나 진기한 형태의 발견에는 그리 크게 신경쓰지 않는다. 그의 작업은 현재 이 세상에 존재하고 있는 그 어떤 현상(phenomena)을 발견하고 그 현상들의 의미와 계연성을 살피려는 하는 그의 의도를 드러내고 있는 것이다. 오마슨은 이 세상이 그에게 제시하는 그 무엇에 의해 끊임없이 현혹되어 다시 자신의 작업을 통해 이런 발견을 세상과 공유하려 한다. ■ 칼 오마슨

Kalli's practice exists in a range of different mediums - such as: drawing, sculpture, installation, environmental work, photography and video. It is consistently rooted in performance as a research tool and point of departure. He strives to remain balanced between a quixotic faith in subjective imagination and the methodological rigor of research based art. Possibly a 'sleeping logician' himself, the artist says of this method: ● "I try to work with my head in the clouds while the feet stay firmly on the ground." (Karl Ómarsson) He is not concerned with originality or novel forms. The works suggest a preference for discovering phenomena that already exist in the world to speculate on their meaning and connections that may exist between them. Kalli is therefore perennially seduced by the world and the works are an attempt to share this experience. ■ Karl Ómarsson
