전국시도립미술관네트워크는 전국 시도의 대표 공공 미술관이 참여하는 협의체로 각 지역 미술관 간의 운영 정보 교류와 향후 순회 전시 개최 등 발전적 미래상을 도모하기 위한 모임이다. 지난해 제1차 시도립미술관장회의 결과 전국 시도립미술관을 연결하는 네트워크전을 추진하기로 하였으며, 광주시립미술관을 비롯한 5개 시도립미술관이 소장하고 있는 하정웅컬렉션의 순회전을 2013 네트워크의 첫 전시로 서울시립미술관에서 개최한다. 이 전시는 광주시립미술관, 부산시립미술관, 포항시립미술관, 전북도립미술관, 제주도립미술관, 대전시립미술관, 대구미술관으로 이어진다. 순회전 참여 미술관들은 나름대로의 기획을 통해 하정웅컬렉션의 다양한 면모를 부각시킬 것이다.

서울시립미술관의 격동기의 혁신예술: 재일작가를 중심으로는 한국 동란을 전후한 격동기의 재일교포 및 일본작가의 작업들을 통해 그 시대의 역사적 의미를 재조명하는 전시이다. 전시는 두 개의 섹션 역사의 흔적, 그리고 기억의 유산으로 구성된다. 이번 서울시립미술관 전시에는 광주시립미술관이 소장하고 있는 하정웅컬렉션 중 11작가- 곽덕준, 김석출, 김인숙, 니 히로하루, 타키다이라 지로, 마키 다이수케, 도미야마 다에코, 송영옥, 작가미상(최승희 사진), 전화황, 조양규 - 의 작품 100여 점이 출품된다. 인간 삶의 궤적이 만들어내는 역사의 흔적들은 과거의 기억으로 사라지기보다는 기억의 유산으로 현재의 의식을 지배한다. 그리고 작품의 주제와 내용은 인간 삶의 문제에 밀접하게 연관된다. 첫 번째 섹션은 한국과 일본 근현대사 속에서 시대와 인간의 삶을 기록하고 고발하는 작품들로 구성된 역사의 흔적, 다음 섹션은 재일교포들, 소수자의 시선으로 미술의 사회적 기능을 부각시킨 기억의 유산이다.

하정웅선생의 컬렉션은 질곡의 역사를 살아온 재일교포와 일본 작가의 그 당시의 사회가 공유한 시대정신을 한 자리에서 살펴볼 수 있도록 작품을 엄선하여 전시하였다. 첫 번째 섹션 역사의 흔적의 경우, 인권의 문제를 주요하게 다루는 재일 동포 작가 김석출, 무용수 최승희의 사진, 니 히로하루, 타키다이라 지로, 마키 다이수케 일본 작가 3인의 공동작업인 하나오카이야기, 도미야마 다에코의 판화작업 등을 소개하며, 다음 섹션 기억의 유산은 당대의 삶을 각기 다양한 리얼리즘 경향으로 선보인 곽덕준, 김인숙, 송영옥, 조양규, 전화황의 작품을 전시한다.

The National Network of Municipal Museums of Art is an alliance comprising the representative public museums of cities across the nation whose remit is to seek and promote a vision of their future by exchanging operational plans between local museums and holding exhibition tours. After holding the 1st meeting with the directors of municipal museums of art in 2012, the network decided to hold network exhibitions that would connect municipal museums of art nationwide. It also made plans to hold the first exhibition tour of the Ha Jung-woong collection involving five municipal museums of art, including the Gwangju Museum of Art, at the Seoul Museum of Art in 2013. This exhibition tour will be held successively at the Gwangju Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Art, Pohang Museum of Steel Art, Jeonbuk Museum of Art, Jeju Museum of Art, Daejeon Museum of Art, and Daegu Art Museum. Museums which participate in the exhibition will highlight various aspects of the Ha Jung-woong collection according to their own unique planning arrangements. ● The Seoul Museum of Art's exhibition titled Progressive Art in the Turbulent Era: Focusing on the Korean Japanese Artists will shed light on the historical significance of that time through works produced by Japanese artists and Korean artists who lived and worked in Japan during the tumultuous years around the Korean War. The exhibition, which will consist of two sections, Traces of History and Legacy of Memories, will introduce to the public some 100 works by eleven artists (Kwak Duck-jun, Kim Sok-chul, Kim In-sook, Nii Hiroharu, Takidaira Jiro, Maki Daisuke, Tomiyama Taeko, Song Young-ok, an unidentified artist (the photos of Choi Seung-hee), Chun Hwa-hwang, Cho Yang-gyu) from the Ha Jung-woong collection, which belongs to the Gwangju Museum of Art. Traces of history, which are footsteps left behind by human life, influence our consciousness as a heritage of abiding memories rather than disappearing among our buried memories. The themes and contents of these works are closely related to the problems of human life. The first section, Traces of History, consists of works that record and report aspects of human life and the modern and contemporary history of Korea and Japan; while the second section, Legacy of Memories, highlights the social function of art from the perspective of ethnic minorities (including Koreans) that live in Japan. ● Ha Jung-woong's collection mainly consists of works by Japanese artists and Korean artists who were living in Japan during this turbulent period of history. The exhibition will present works that have been carefully selected to reveal the prevailing social attitudes of that time in one comprehensive view. The first section, Traces of History, exhibits a work by Korean Japanese artist Kim Sok-chul, who usually deals with the issue of human rights; photos of dancer Choi Seung-hee; Hanaoka Story, which is a collaborative work by three Japanese artists, namely, Nii Hiroharu, Takidaira Jiro, and Maki Daisuke; and lithographic works by Tomiyama Taeko. The second section, Legacy of Memories, exhibits works by Kwak Duck-jun, Kim In-sook, Song Young-ok, Cho Yang-gyu, and Chun Hwa-hwang, which show the life of that time using the various characteristics of realism. ● Visitors to this exhibition will be able to see how progressive works by Korean Japanese artists, who strove to offer a window into their own era, implicitly expressed the politics, economy, society, and culture of the time in their works, and to feel how the artists attempted to overcome the historical traumas and dominant issues of human life in the midst of that turbulent time. ● As part of another exchange project organized by the national network of municipal museums of art, the Jeonbuk Museum of Art is planning to hold New & Now: SeMA's New Acquisitions 2012, an exhibition of the Seoul Museum of Art's new collection of installation works and sculptures in 2012. ■ Seoul Museum of Art
