A String Game

스페이스15에서는 2013년 두번째 기획전으로 3월 5일부터 3월 24일까지 오민정의 개인전 『A String Game 』을 개최한다. 작가는 주변의 사물이나 상황들을 포착, 흥미롭고 친근한 드로잉과 영상작업으로 이야기를 풀어내고 있다. 작가의 작업을 통해 관객은 작가가 지나온 장소와 문화에 대한 이야기뿐 아니라 자신의 이야기도 비추어 볼 수 있으리라 기대해 본다. ■ 스페이스 15번지

오민정의 작업속 풍경은 우리 일상의 한 장면들이다. 하지만 구르는 바퀴가 있는 수레, 자전거를 끌고 가는 인물, 짐이 가득 실린 트럭 등등은 현재의 공간에서 벗어나 이동 중임을 시사한다. 일기 같기도 하고 이야기의 삽화 같기도 한 낱낱의 화면들은 개별적이면서도 연결되어 보인다. 사람들이 삶의 충전을 위해 여행을 가장 먼저 떠올리듯이 새로운 공간은 무한한 에너지원이다. 또 하나의 매력은 포장된 자신을 경계하지 않고 드러낼 수 있는 이완상태에 이르게 하는 것이다. 이동의 궤적을 쫓는 작가는 묻혀 지고 흩어져버리는 삶의 흔적을 모은다. 미처 감지하지 못한 조각난 진실들이 모여지면 새로운 이야기가 또 드러날 것을 작가는 자못 궁금해 하는 것이다. 이번에는 우리의 일상과 사소한 놀이를 엮는다. 놀이가 진행되는 동안 상대의 심리를 파악하게 되듯이 게임과 같은 일상은 서로에 대한 이해를 가능케 하는 순간 들이 있음이 분명하기 때문이다. ■ 황유정

The scenery in Oh Min-jeong's works are from our daily lives. However, the handcart with turning wheels, the person pulling along a bicycle, the truck carrying a full load, etc. suggest being in transit from their current spaces. The individual scenes which partly resemble diary entries and partly resemble story illustrations are separate but seem connected. As people think of traveling first when it comes to re-energizing for life, a new space is an inexhaustible source of energy. Another attractive aspect is that traveling leads to a state of relaxation which allows one to reveal their self from under their covers without reservation. The artist, in pursuit of a trajectory of movement, collects the traces of life which become buried and scattered. The artist is quite curious of the new story which will once again reveal itself with the collection of fragmented truths that had escaped notice. This time she brings together our daily lives and frivolous play. As people are able to perceive their opponents' psychology while a game is in progress, it is certain that parts of the everyday such as games possess moments which allow mutual understanding between engaged parties. ■ Hwang Yoo-jung
