TELLING

모노컴플렉스는 조장원, 박현우, 황은상, 김태민 4명의 디자이너로 구성된 디자인 그룹이다. 인테리어 디자인과 각종 전시, 공모전 수상을 통해 대상에 대한 모노컴플렉스 만의 구조적, 조형적, 실험적인 접근들을 다양한 관점으로 선보여 왔다. 모노컴플렉스는 '즐거운 커뮤니케이션'을 모토로 대중에게 가장 친숙한 가구와 조명, 디자인소품을 통해 작가 스스로의 생각의 틀에 얽매이지 않는 다양한 작품을 표현한다. 이들은 모호하고 복잡하며 다양성이 혼재되어 있는 세상에서 '단순'한 철학과 진정성이 담긴 디자인놀이를 하고자 하며, 이는 재기발랄한 작품들을 통하여 표현되고 있다. ● 모노컴플렉스의 사전적 의미는 단순, 복잡함이다. 이는 각 디자이너의 성향이 다르기 때문에 보여지는 결과물의 다양한 색을 뜻한다. 또한 공동의 작업에서 서로의 성향이 합쳐져 또다른 하나의 결과물을 만들어내기도 한다.

모노컴플렉스는 눈으로 보여지는 모든 사물과 사건에 대한 스스로의 질문과 다양한 해석을 추구한다. 이는 끊임없는 탐구와 작품활동 가운데 개인과 팀에 대한 정체성을 확립하며, 결과적으로 그러한 과정들이 모여 모노컴플렉스 만의 철학으로 형성되기를 바란다. 단순하지만 복잡한 세상의 수많은 주제에 대한 결과물을 작가와 대중이 평등한 시선으로 바라보길 원한다. 스스로 어떤 사물에 의해 영감을 받아 작업을 하게 되면, 좋던 싫던 간에 그 속에서 자신이 지닌 문화적, 사회적 요소가 가미된다. 그러한 결과물은 대중으로 하여금 수많은 상상을 하게 만든다. ● 충동(Impulse)이라는 키워드는 사전적으로 좋지 않은 의미 또한 지니고 있지만 팀의 작품활동에 있어 가장 큰 힘이자 원동력이 된다. 지나친 신중함은 때로는 순간적 느낌을 결과물로 옮겨내는 것을 방해해 자칫 평범한 작품으로 보여지게 하는 위험요소가 되기도 한다. 실패가 주는 중압감을 두려워하지 않으며, 창작에 대한 열의를 불러오는 '충동'이 바로 모노컴플렉스의 키워드이다.

모노컴플렉스(monocomplex)는 2013년 첫 전시를 통해 대중에게 다양한 이야기(telling)를 전하려 한다. ● 세상은 지나칠 만큼 빠르게 변해가고, 점점 일상 속에서 평범한 것을 누리지 못하고 있다. 앞으로 향하려 하되 뒤는 돌아보지 못한다. 과거의 무언가를 향한 그리움, 동경 그리고 회상, 익숙한 사물과 풍경에 대한 기억을 각자의 방식과 프로세스를 통해 새롭게 표현하였다. 친숙한 사물을 이용한 유쾌한 발상의 실험적인 조명과 가구, 다양한 오브제는 우리가 삶을 바라보는 시각을 담고 있다. ● 닿지 않는 하늘처럼 멀게만 느껴지는 예술을 이번 전시(telling)를 통해 대중의 가까이서 보여주고자 한다. 조명과 가구가 단순히 빛을 밝히고, 물건을 두고, 앉는다는 것으로부터 한 걸음 물러나 그것이 지니는 오브제로서의 가치를 조명한다. 이러한 행위를 통해 사물과 나 사이의 공간과 여유를 느끼며, 현실을 바라보는 관객과 대중의 마음속 정화를 불러일으키고자 한다. ■ 모노컴플렉스

Monocomplex is a design group that consists of 4 designers, Cho Jang Won, Park Hyun Woo, Hwang Eun Sang, and Kim Tae Min. The members have showed structural, formative, and experimental approach of MONOCOMPLEX with various viewpoints through interior design and various exhibition and contest exhibit awards. MONOCOMPLEX represents various works not being bound to writer's own thoughts through furniture, lighting, and design props that are most familiar to the public. It intends to perform a design play containing 'simple' philosophy and sincerity in the world mixed up with ambiguity, complexity, and diversity. Their collaborative efforts have created some of the most interesting modern pieces. ● The dictionary meaning of Monocomplex is simplicity, and complexity. This means various colors of results that are seen by different tendencies of designers. And in the common works, another result happens to be made up being combined with one another. ● MONOCOMPLEX pursues its own question about everything and cases that are seen by eyes and various analyses. This establishes entity for individual and team through constant research and art working, and it wishes those to be formed as philosophy of Monocomplex itself. It hopes that writers and the public would look at the result of simple but complex lots of subjects of the world with even view. When one begins to work being inspired from certain thing, his or her cultural and social factors enter in the work whether he or she likes it or not. That result makes the public try imagining lots of things. ● The keyword Impulse has not that good dictionary meaning, but it can be the greatest power and momentum for team's activities. Too mean deliberation sometimes happen to be a risk factor that makes works seen normal, keeping one from making momentary feelings to results. 'Impulse' that has one not to be afraid of failing and brings about enthusiasm for creation is the keyword of Monocomplex. ● Monocomplex is conveying diverse tellings to the public through its first exhibit in the year 2013. ● The world is going through immoderate changes, and it is becoming more difficult to enjoy ordinary livelihoods. We aim to move forward, but are not able look back. New creations were conducted through individualistic methods and processes based on past longings, reminiscence, and memories of familiar objects and sceneries. The experimental lightings and furniture and various objet, which are provided through creative ideas from familiar objects, possess our perspectives towards life. ● Through this telling, art, which seems to be getting further and further from our reach, is to be shown to the public through a more intimate form. Instead of considering lightings and furniture merely as objects which emit light, hold other objects, and are utilized as seats, we must take a step back and reflect on the values which they each hold as an objet. Through these actions, the appropriate distance and composure are created between objects and oneself, and they aim to purify the hearts of audiences and the public who face different realities. ■ MONOCOMPLEX
